Cambodian opposition leader Sam Rainsy met this afternoon in Washington D.C. with Christopher Hill, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs. Deputy Assistant Secretary Scot Marcial also took part in the meeting at the State Department. They discussed the worrisome environment and mechanics of the forthcoming national elections to be held in Cambodia on 27 July 2008, as well as the necessity to promote good governance in that country with the adoption and the effective implementation of a long overdue anti-corruption law. Another topic is related to problems that hinder progress in the proceedings at the Khmer Rouge Tribunal.

Borrrrinnnng ... same old nonsense whining and complaining. With so much time to waste, the SRP will not doing well in the election.
Eh, may be it's better of for you to go take a cold shower or play Koun Sak Bram.
You should know by now that politic is not in your gene.
its always these senseless comments by "Ignorant" khmer peeps that Cambodia cant move foward.at least the man is bringing some outside attention to help out.it must be alright for you guys to stand and allow our land to be strip down and have our people cry for help everyday.I cant wait to see him later on this evening.
Im Khmer by the way
Great leader, great politician and the cpp can not stand a chance with Mr. Sam Rainsy.
When evil faces good, evil will be defeated.
Vote for SRP! So long CPP...
What is so ignorant about the comment? The Sam Rainsy and US meet had been going on for decades now, and it hasn't done anyone any good but worse.
Khmer people always support H.E. Sam RainSy who serves Khmers,
Khmer people are always against ah psychopath Hun Sen who is ah youn servant. Ah psychopath Hun Sen, CPP (Communist Pro youn Party) member, is ah criminal against humanity in Cambodia.

initiatives to build a strong force, current, engine, and motivation to seek unity as one.
However, we all should think about Sam Rainsy also. He has backed down so many times about what he has said.
First of all, he accused of Hun Sen for being the mastermind of the 1997 grenade attacks on his demonstration in front of the former Assembly. Then after, living in exile for almost a year, he then sent out apologies to Hun Sen for his sake of returing back home and carrying his twin demogogue like Hun Sen.
Last year, after the Commune elections, he wished to unify the so-called democrats from royal, nationalist, and others to one spinning wool (spinning thread wool) to be as strong as ever. Then he changed his mind for some idiotic reasons such as those other parties are non-reliable like that of Rannaridh, and Kem Sokha. He also bragged his opposition was the supreme party curbing the ruling CPP.
Now, he lashed out on Hor Nam Hong and Keat Chunne. What were you thinking? Didn't you know that the elections were to begin in like two months? What was the point of pinpointing or labelling people? Was he just letting out all emotions at once without thinking about any severe consequences that his party members would have to deal and solve. If you make a mess, clean it yourself without letting others bear negative consequences.
Look at Rannaridh, he would rather live in exile without apologising to his bullies Niek Bunchay, and others, or absolving his political endeavours, which are all he knows but nothing else. He is not backind down. I still give him a lot of credits back in the era leading up to the 1993 elections along with other compatriots.
What has Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha done so far for milestones? Holdning mass protests, ineffective screaming and crying, helping random landless poor, defaming politicians without evidence and strong stance, garnering support from rural, uneducated peasants and farmers, gloryfying their parties' constitutions about this and that? None of that have not combined into one major stream to conterbalance negative, unwanted policies from the ruling CPP.
When efforts and intentions do no portray and bear the wanted outcome, none of them have had no great cause. For example, when a ship is sinking, everyone tries to rescue it but none can't do it due to random and uncordinated strength and agenda. So in then, the ship sinks, everyone dies, and the outside world doesn't even know that the ship existed nor that the everyone tried to rescue it.
So after all, who is to blame for your losses after the elections of 2008? Is it going to some finger-pointing, etc?
It's despicable how nobody has any clue of how to win, and when i say win, it is to win big!
So make up for mind, and stop spinning everyone's head here and ther, left to right, east to west, or north to south!
The suffering will be those who lets it happen and is not able to prevent, enforce, and contermeasure. Buddha only helps those who help themselves. No matter how much fertilizers you put for your crops, in the end the crops will yield much produce or results, if fertilizers are not applied correctly, appropriately according the weather, insects, or care.
Bottom line, think about yourselves furthermore before rambling on and on with no end in sight except the pain you will inflict on yourself, and most importantly those surrounding you!
Be the man, and get the job done! Don't do it with a half-done attitude. If you're in a cave, go all the way in and see what it has to offer. Don't just go in half way, back out, and change your mind.
Until next time,
Khmer Thinker
Intervention from outsiders or those from the so-called democracy on the front, or basically other democratic countries will not be able to contribute to the well-being of poor, uneducated Cambodians at all.
These politicians who also try to garner support, link, and contact with other politicians are only doing it for the sake of their popularity and legitimacy in Cambodia.
If you yourself cannot think, act, and lead in a manner for self-respect and for others' role model. What is the point of getting all that attention? Isn't it useless anyway? For example, your parents want you succeed in school, but you have no idea of how to initiate, execuate, and overcome your obstacles such as attending your classes, performing given school tasks at home, and studying and performing well on your exams, respectively.
Like I said above, no matter how fertilizers you have used, if your seed is not compatible with the weahter, and your method of practices, it will not grow. By the way, if the so-called democratic united party wants to name its logo, it should be " The New Seed of Life" with a rice seed as the symbol. Why the seed of rice? We all know that Camobdia relies solely on rice as our staple, in the same manners as neighbouring, and Asian countries.
How how often you see other politicians around the world going from one country to another frequently? I don't believe it is that often as of our Khmer ones. Other politicians, they rely mainly on their fellow compatriots, fellow party members, and fellow party politicians.
This is what the Khmer politicians should embedd in their mentality and learn from past, and ancient mistakes. Foreigners are foreigners,no matter what their races are. None is better that the other. We should all rely more with each other fellow Khmer, and strengthen in all parts of life whether be it in politics, society, economy, and environment.
Don't forget all the world still holds injustice in some other parts of life. For example, the rich contries still want something in return for their benefits for trading and interacting with poor countries, such as Cambodia. For example, tourists can flock to destination countries freely, wheras those from poor countries have so many restrictions of getting to first world countries like being approved for visas. Also, look at those missionary places, they don't even accept people for just humnanity unless those poor children accept the offer of Jesus Christ, their sanctimony, and sanctuary. These missionaries work in remote areas in Cambodia to gain as many as poor children as possible in the hope of prosetylizing them all in the future. So, we all should look at ourselves closely, instead of having a bian on just one, or some particular groups of society. However, there's so much praise given to those who do just pure humanity work such as Doctors without Borders, the Red Cross, UNHCR, and just basically those English teachers who want nothing in return.
So, to recap, it is unneccessary for our Khmer politicians come overseas seasonlly to obtain what they wish to have: money, awareness, support, and publicity. In this age of technology, they don't even need to come unless they have emergency and great news. News is now twenty-four seven, and real time like KI media.
Stop the hooligan, be the man, and get the job. Blaming serves only for those who do not wish to bear responsiblity at. For example, when one of your friends who is accused of stealing some money from someboy or he is accused of adultery, do you blame him and tell the authority? I doubt not. Or that you fail your course, do you blame your teacher or your school? I doubt not.
Until next time,
Khmer thinker
Hey, a new voice on KI-Media. I could have said or written that. This is about what's doable and pragmatic, and not who's to blame for what. Congrats for your post, Khmer Thinker. I guess you chose your nick for what you really are - a thinker.
the USA should be protecting cambodia like it is protecting israel. khmer-american friendship forever. god bless cambodia.
Thank you very much 12:01 Am for your insightful, and flattering comments.
I am not here to brag about myself or others. I am here just to help the contry, the nation, and the people advance to the next era with a great leader and great agenda, instead of hearing nonsense on the news (hint, hint) all the time about internal party fractions, inflation here and there, factory workers being exploited, famine with no help, crony politicians, land-grabbing, the rate of GDP which does not portray the well-being of the majority of Cambodians at all, a one-China policy by the King and Hun Sen, women being bought as brides to South Korea, Preah Vihear contentions, illegal immigrants with no measures to curb, human trafficking to Thailand, prostiutions, the high life of singers and movie starts and the low life of the poor collecting recycling for living, missionary work by prosetylizing the poor, uneducated children by pretending to help humanity, etc.
These are all sickening news which perpetuate in continuous cycle, or the so-called the "the Vicious Cycle".
Nobody seems to be able to break the deadlock and have potent stamina to take on the agenda left after the Angkorian period.
Everyone seems to seek foreigners' helpe here and there whether be it from neighbouring countries or overseas. The bottom line is that they don't care about us as much as we do about ourselves.
So stand up and unite! I don't want to see another loss national election. It is a very long time to wait for every four years for something exciting such as this to happen. This is to supposed-to-be democratic country aftermath the UNTAC's interventtion.
Racism and fear is still widely prevalent with no end in sight. When you are strong yourself, nobody wants to do you harm.
Until next time,

Thinker: I read your rhetoric is nicely in output only, but I don't see any helpful input from your complaints.
Design solution for Cambodia in short term and long term period would be precisely for you if you want to help improve Cambodia.
Cambodia should develop genuine democracy, nation-state, the rule of law, and equity etc. All these are our targets and what measures that we can achieve them.
Demonstration, appealing, case of Hor Namhong, visiting US, or other activities are considered as part of SRP to achieve those targets. CPP has also changed some of their habit to achieve those goals as well.
But CPP has everything in hand, this party can decide to do or not to do. For instance, corruption law that CPP has no intention at all to achieve this bill. CPP has power and has every thing in hand, but what we have seen is that this party is continuing to distort, manipulate and support all activities that can prolong their power.
SRP is just a rival of CPP to legitimize their power in the use the brand name of democracy. But through its weakness as a competitor, SRP led by Rainsy has tirelessly struggled and bravely fought with the big monster of CPP.
For your position, what do you think of these two social driving forces in Cambodia? Or you are just ranting around with useless thinking?
KY
Dear Khmer Thinker,
Either you are a royalist fool or have long been fooled by the fools, that is why you never really understand the complexity of Cambodian politics. Look at what happened since 1993. We were sold out. Funcinpec under your royalist Rannaridh sold out everyone else, even the principles which brought them there in the first place, to the devils. Haven't you learn anything, mate?
Wrong, Rannarith cheated in the 93's election. People did not vote for him but his father Somdach Euv.
Mr. Khmer Thinker,
You quote: "First of all, he accused of Hun Sen for being the mastermind of the 1997 grenade attacks on his demonstration in front of the former Assembly."
Sam Rainsy did NOT accused Hun Sen of mastermind the 1997 attack? It was a FACT!
See the FBI reports and Heng Pov statement.
Again you quote: "Then after, living in exile for almost a year, he then sent out apologies to Hun Sen for his sake of returing back home and carrying his twin demogogue like Hun Sen."
It was Hun Sen who'd threatening Sam Rainsy and then issued an arrest warrant to ban him from entering Cambodia. The same tactic he had use against Rinnariddh. See RFA interview below...... an interview with RFA from Malaysia, during the New Year, Prince Ranariddh claimed that Hun Sen proposed him to choose one of three options to return to Cambodia. According to the prince, he would have to present his apologies to the Hun Sen, as Sam Rainsy did in 2006, or he would have to accept to return back to the Funcinpec helm. “I absolutely cannot accept these conditions,” the prince said while accusing Hun Sen of wanting to put an end to his political career. While denying that he made such propositions, Hun Sen labeled the prince as “politician without strategy” and he declared that he does not want to talk to the prince anymore from now on." Note, he's pouting like a kid after this statement. About the cave; Sam Rainsy ain't no dummy........ there's a pirate inside w/ grenades. Leave the Titanic to a sensitive viewers..... like a girl!
Last but not least, I'd agree with KY. You claimed not to brags but to help the country? With a thoughtful mind like yours, one should post a positive feed back and attempt to exhaust every avenues to solved the problems instead of degrading the country.
It's freedom and ritghts of each politician, you cannot stop them from going abroad, seeking support. These day is not the old days when Khmer were living as frogs living in the well.
Dear fellow Khmer debaters,
I'm so glad you are all very keen and insightful with your feedback to my comments.
I am only here to stir up a very intellectual debate to contemplate further and more intellectually about our current affairs in Cambodia, instead of seeping it in without questioning authority. This is our duty a Khmer to doubt and not follow without knowing some directions in life.
I know that you are all very intellectual and strategic with your thinker. However, nobody seems to have debates about anything except for out of the dark comments, and swearing about this and that and whom.
I am also delighted that you have thought further and came up with something new and genuine.
Please keep doing what you do best and follow your conscience. When your are strong, noone wants to do you harm. This is what I'd like to see in our Khmer folks.
Once again, thank you and until next time,
Khmer thinker
I like your unbiased comment, 9:09. But can you also share with us some of your view on the KR tribunal. I mean where do you think we are going with this? Will justice serves? Will we get anything useful to help our future generation to avoid the atrocity as had been claimed....yariyariyariya...
To: Khmer thinker
The way you think and you can't even think outside the box! You chose to see only the negative side of the Mr. Sam Rainsy which is very easy to do and you are very bias in your political view too! Now how can you call yourself a “thinker” when you don't have a balance view of what the hell is going on in Cambodia? You don’t even know the real political environment in Cambodia which forces Mr. Sam Rainsy to operate his political in such manner! Even with all your insight about Mr. Sam Rainsy and you can’t even do shit anyway! But at least Mr. Sam Rainsy has the courage to stand before the dictator and command him to respect dirt poor Cambodian people right to free speech, command him to respect the law and order and the Cambodian constitution! Without Mr. Sam Rainsy put the brake on AH HUN SEN the dictator and I don’t what will become of Cambodia by now because AH HUN SEN the dictator will do anything as please!
Please don’t embarrass me by calling yourself a “thinker” because a real “thinker” have a balance view and understand the root cause of the problem! I will tell you what is the root cause of the fucken problem and the problem is that Cambodia still have the same Vietcong puppet government since 1979 and as long as AH HUN SEN continue to listen to his Vietcong master and he is guarantee to stay in power for life!
Why keep on thinking when you can't even do shit and it just a waste of time! Ahhahahhah
Oh, shut the fuck up, 10:24. Without Ah Sam Rainsy, Cambodia would have been 30-40% better than it is today, and we don't care if the Vietcong is involved or not. Furthermore, there is not to many sides to tell about criminals. They are just bad, like Sam Rainsy, period.
To 10:41AM
Oh really? So you are telling me the selling of state assets such as government building, hospital, school...and the selling of dirt poor Cambodian people land through forceful eviction, chop down Cambodian forest and commit massive corruption through every level of government institution under AH HUN SEN dictatorship regime is a good thing?
Now since you said that Sam Rainsy is just as bad as AH HUN SEN and I want you to prove it! You don't have to prove it to me but to the world community! Where is your evidence?
Hey, stop day dreaming, 10:58. I didn't say anything about the government abusing people. Why wasting our effort when Pol Pot could have done a better job for us, if that is what we want, and you know fair well that that is not the case. Many of us risked our live to save Khmer from becoming extinct, and they are fairly prosperous right now. Their number are multiplying instead decimating.
On the other hand, we can't say the same thing about Ah Xam Rainxy. If we were to put all the dead bodies together that is caused by him since he got back, we would have a mass grave that is very competitive as those created by Pol Pot. Get the picture?
Bless the man for all his hard work. Sam Rainsy deserve to hold the title for his country.
Yes, and I hope he'll do a good job leading gorillas on Planet of the Ape in the right direction.
I understand your point of views of having an opposition party such as of the Sam Rainsy Party, what it has done over the years of helping poor, uneducated Khmer farmers, peasants, moto taxi drivers, factory workers, and the landless poor, etc.
However, my arguments are served to contemplate the degree of effectiveness of the party's approach of winning the elections. Winning, i say, and not losing so to make as clear as possible. In Cambodia, the word "Winning" is so common now that nobody seems to pay attention anymore, or basically have the apathy about the direction the country heads to.
For example, parents send a child to school and the child does seem to go school everyday, day in day out. But the parents don't question and contemplate the effectiveness of the child's schooling whether be in he/she is attending classes, being taken care by the teachers, not being bullied by school mates, is going to enroll in an appropriate schoolign system, or basically he/she is learning in the right environment, performing the highest potential, and obtaining what he/she deserves.
This is analogous the similar approach and constitution of the Sam Rainsy Party. The leader always the same with no changes for the slightest bit since its foundation except for some minor name changes.
Where is the legitimacy, credibility, and accountability of the party? There are no elections whatsover to elect a new president after a period of time. It does not hold its members at bay at all times. There have been the same mistakes over and over like apologising to Hun Sen, which showing that it has lost some credibility and not holding to its firm stance. It's legitimacy is that it does not want to associate with other parties with similar mandates even by sitting down at a round table and work as if you were working in a corporation, and trying to gain as much more profits as possible. Look at Japan, it has many conglomerates such as Honda, Toyota, Sony, Nissan, etc, that it is strong and dominating alsmot all of Asia. Why are they so successful and powerful?
Obviously, there have been dissense within the party that some dissidents did not wish to speak out and change some attitudes toward its party's policies. So then, they had to pack their bags and leave bitterly. What if had they spoken, would there be defections? I doubt not. So basically, the party is not as democratic as it intended to be.
These are some of the reasons that have arisen the Human Rights Party, which have similar goals, but some distinct policies, such as presidency's term which is only one term, etc.
Well, we all should learn from their strategies whether be in economics, politics, or science and technology.
Don't forget, it is all politics alone, folks. There is just one thing or one way in life to succeed your goals.
It is almost similar to the CPP, which has had one leader for a very long time. If given the right time and chance, any intectual and compatible person best suit for the post, could just do as great or better than Sam Rainsy as the party leader.
Look at developed countries such as the U.S, Canada, France, etc, all parties in contentions to win the elections, all have changed their image be it in their candidates for presidency of the parties, or candidates for the countries' presidents, or prime minister.
To recap at this time of politics in Cambodia, the number of opposition parties does not equate to the effectiveness of them all at all. But what effectiveness is whether each party could achieve its goal, which is the goal to "Win", not the goal to be a party of the ruling party.
By the way, I don't want to comments about the Khmer Rouge Tribunal at this time, but thank you for asking me for some inputs on this controversy.
Until next time,
Khmer Thinker

You are asking dirt poor Cambodian people to practice democracy in a dictatorship environment? Well, Mr. Sam Rainsy had been doing just that!
Did you know that the CPP controls everything in Cambodia? The CPP controls the court, the police, and the military and they even control the Royal Council of the Throne which has the power to choose the next Cambodian King and they even control Cambodian election box!
Now with that in mind and do you think Sam Rainsy Party can win over the CPP just like that even though they have worked so hard over the years to earn Cambodian people trust who has been living in fear, mistrust, and hunger for over 30 years? Not!
Sometime winning is not all that important! How would you like to win over a little child who refuses to listen to reasoning and keep on demanding what he wants? This is what exactly happens to Mr.Hun Sen the dictator because he behaves like a little child who refuses to listen to reasoning and he resorted to use jungle law and military force to get what he want over his opponents!
"Winning is not everything - but making an effort to win is."
Vince Lombardi
Well, Vince Lombardi is stupid then because making effort to win by exploiting people suffering is evil.
To 9:29AM
Explain what you mean by exploiting people suffering and by whom! Do you know what the hell you are talking about? Ahahhahah
What is so hard to understand about "exploit people suffering"? You make people suffer and you use that for your own benefit. Sam Rainsy used to called for economic sanction against Cambodia to make people suffer so that they will rise against the government. But after received criticisms from many people, he appeared to stop that tactic, but he's still hold on to the concept.
To 8:05PM
With or without the economic sanction dirt poor Cambodian would still suffer under dictatorship system from human right violation, land eviction, and systematic corruption at every level of government institution!
It doesn't matter whether anyone want to impose economic sanction on Cambodia because the corruption will bleed Cambodia to death anyway!
How do you argue after all these years of AH HUN SEN government that never face any economic sanction and the donor country still pump more money at 600 million dollars in 2007 and does that make the life of dirt poor Cambodian people any easier? Of course not! Just look at the present condition and dirt poor Cambodian people still face hardship and continue to complain about the high cost of everything!
Mr. Sam Rainsy is only asking that the international community to be more responsible in giving their economic aid to Cambodia and make Hun Sen government uphold the rule of law and respect human right! But too often Mr. Sam Rainsy concern fall on deaf ear because now the donor countries have more special interest and economic interest than the rule of law and the respect for human right!
Remember only Cambodian people can Cambodia into a great country and not Cambodian government! It had been proven for over 30 years that corrupted dictatorship former Khmer Rouge Vietcong puppet Cambodian government can never make Cambodia into a great country but only to prolong the suffering of dirt poor Cambodian people!
What are you talking about? What do you expect from 600 million usd per year for 14 millions people? you are talking 13-15 cents per day per person. I hope you don't expect to see everyone riding in a Toyota Camery and living in a brick house with air condition and all with that amount , dude.
PS: Here's one of the source where Sam Rainsy want to make Khmer people suffer from famine and disease just like in the Khmer Rouge for his own stupid benefit by calling for economic sanction against Cambodia, even he know fair well he can't run the country.

Only traitor will do that, dude.
