Opposition leader Sam Rainsy revealed major plans leading the general election victory and, in particular, he also displayed some of his strong confidence in winning and removing Prime minister Hun Sen from power.

Speaking to a group of about 60 people on Wednesday evening, during a fund collection to support the Sam Rainsy Party for its preparation for the upcoming July election, Sam Rainsy discussed about his (election) plans, such as his promise to return lands back to their original owners, his promise to create jobs, improving healthcare by providing free medical care for the poor. The opposition leader also views that there are at least two other major opportunities where he hope to use to remove his opponent, Prime minister Hun Sen, from power.

These two opportunities are (1) price inflation which Sam Rainsy said that this issue will make the population angry against the current government leader, and (2) the future of the US political landscape with the upcoming US presidential election. “If Mr. John McCain will be elected as president, he will surely help Cambodia with all his might, just his help to push for the public release of the FBI report (about the 1997 grenade attack in Phnom Penh), then Hun Sen’s political future will be finished immediately.”

Cambodia can always used improvements, 1:43, but certainly not with Sam Rainsy. That will be walking back to Year-Zero.

Socheata;

Opposition leader Sam Rainsy revealed major plans leading the general election victory and

Are you meant to say " Opposition Leader Sam rainsy has revealed its major plans in which might lead to victory in general election".

during a fund collection to support the Sam Rainsy Party for its preparation for the upcoming

Are you meant to say "During the Sam Rainsy Party fund raising".

price inflation

What's price inflation?
----------------------------------

such as his promise to return lands back to their original owners

Is it referring to owners of lands and properties prior to pre KR, post KR or current owners?

Skeptical that this will possibly be done as many owners of land now are legally owned their land and property.

Price inflation which Sam Rainsy said that this issue will make the population angry against the current government leader.

This is a global issue that every country is trying to put a break and lid on inflation and every citizens of contry concerned are not happy at all and there's nothing much the government in those sovereign states can do except looking into a short term solution such as trade practices [whether the price hikes are justified].

Just wonder how SR can come up with a wonder plan to lower the prices.

Mr. John McCain will be elected as president, he will surely help Cambodia with all his might.

Time will only tell - November 2008

Don't think that MaCain will go to the extreme in helping SR to get what is is wishing for by ignoring the facts and better deplomatic relationship between the two countries.

MaCain himself was the POW in Vietnam war, he was and is still the astute support of Iraq war, just hope that he will meet his match on international stage should he would be elected.

Hey Trash talk is better than Shit talk like Ah Hun Sen. I listen to Mr. Sam Rainsy in the meeting that he helds in the US recently. He is a soft spoken and not like his counterpart, Hun Zen, talk like a gangster and always raise his voice. This is called uneducated person public speaking. Hun Zen is not comparable with Mr. Sam Rainsy. Hun Sen is an animal and always kill his opponent to stay in power. His day will come like Sadam, Marcos, Noriega, East German leader, Yugoslavia leader, etc...

What has Hun Zen done to the country when he is in power for almost 30 years?. Every industrialize nation changes their leaders every 8 to 10 years to avoid absolute power and abuse the power.

Down with Hun Zen and his regime.
Trash Hun Zen.
Shit on Hun Zen.
Hang Hun Zen.
Kick his ass.

Let's vote for SRP in coming election.

No problem, we'll vote for the SRP when we get to Planet of the Ape.

Amateur Night

This is too good to be passed up not to be commented on. Here is Sam Rainsy at his best again speaking to a gathering of, lo and behold, 60 people. He wants to win the election and remove Hun Sen from power. Well, that is legitimate but will prove tricky. If his overseas supporter show up in such huge numbers we can only surmise the amount of money raised for his election campaign. One thing is for sure, it won’t be too much.

One really needs to take a closer look at the politically active overseas Khmer. First how many are there? Altogether it is estimated that there are about 500,000 Khmer living outside Cambodia with about 300,000 in the U. S. As everywhere the majority is politically disinterested, more concerned with their daily problems and how to make a living. Going by normal standards about 10% are politically active, which would translate to 50,000. Compared to more than 7 million voters in Cambodia – in other words they can be discounted for all intents and purposes. But this is just an aside.

Sam Rainsy wants to return land back to their original owners. He must mean illegally obtained land. Well, nothing wrong with that either. But who is to determine which land was stolen and which land was rightfully purchased? He will create such confusion and bureaucratic entanglements the likes of which he has not seen since his return to Cambodia, not to mention the possible responses from disgruntled owners (and possibly sellers too). If he were to go after investors, most of them from abroad, one can only hope Sam Rainsy will be driven out of office after 6 months, because that would be like cutting the lifelines of Cambodia.

About free medical care – another noble and commendable goal. Where will he find the money to pay for this? Even the U. S., arguably the richest country is debating how to achieve this? Some don’t even want to touch this subject, like John McCain.

And now the two great opportunities that would sway the voters - inflation makes people angry and they blame it all on the government. Mr. Sam Rainsy please tell us how you would fight inflation when most factors are out of your control, e. g. oil prices, imported inflation because of the dollar-based economy, etc.?

And the joke of the evening: if John McCain is elected president he will help Cambodia with all his might. Come on, Sam Rainsy, where do you live? On another planet? John McCain will be busy with Iraq, Iran, and China, and his domestic problems. Cambodia won’t be on his schedule the first 36 months in office, if at all. As for the FBI report - don’t be so naïve to believe that will ever be released to the public. The U. S. government itself had a hand in suppressing it. Don’t expect any help there. You will find a wall of silence on that subject.

And if Kenya and Zimbabwe are any yardsticks to go by, the U. S. will not move a finger to help, or should we say intervene in, Cambodia. And those are not the only examples – Darfur, Zaire (now the Congo), Rwanda, Burundi, Liberia were all countries sinking into chaos and mayhem with the U. S. standing idly by.

In summary, Sam Rainsy started out well in the 1990s, but after the last election he has undergone an incisive change in his tactics and pronouncements and it looks like he has lost his look for reality.

Khmer democratic parties will not have a unity. It should happen long time ago. And it cannot happen now.

A few days after the coup the western gave a big support and idea for the 3 main democratic parties to form a UCD (United Cambodian Democracies). They asked Kem Sokha to be a middle person. Son San accepted it. Ranaridh was OK with it. But Rainsy refused. He said the same thing as now "His party will win. His party does not need anyone else". If they united, they would already win the CPP at that time.

After seeing Rainsy's attitute, Son San's team later joined FUNCINPEC.

After staying with FUNCINPEC for awhile Kem Sohka saw no hope that FUNCINPEC would go up but to come down. He then secretly talked to Rainsy to bring about half of FUNCINPEC's team to join Rainsy. But Rainsy refused again.

Later on Kem Sokha throw a Human Rights group organization to gain his own popularity. Seeing and fearing of popularity of Kem Sokha, Rainsy and his wife then secretly met Kem Sokha and offerred him a Vice President at Sam Rainsy Party. But it was Kem Sokha's turn to refuse.

Later in 2006 one of the western country tried to put these two men at a round table in Phnom Penh and asked them to work together. But Rainsy refused again. He said "His tree has grown strong roots. His ship is going toward the goal. His party is OK. He doesnot need anyone."

Again in 2007 after Kem Sokha launched the Human Rights Party, a group of western countries tried to put them together. They arranged for both of them to meet in Switzeland. Kem Sokha showed up, but Rainsy did not. Rainsy and his wife went to Paris instead.

I think it was the final attemp of the western to help these two groups to unite. And I think they will never be together. In their heart they become the enemy now.

They both are now trying so hard to gain votes and seats in order to be a partner with CPP to run the government. But they are wrong again. FUNCINPEC will win a few seats (2 or 3 at least) that will add up to 50+1 with CPP. Then they are still a strong partner for government.

It is too late for Kem Sokha, Rainsy or anyone to call for the unity.

My beloved 11:35PM!

Forgive me for unacknowledgeably understanding of Khmer PoliSick!

From what you're confidently saying that the unification of Kem SoKha and SamRainsy is officailly expired!

Well put 10:35.
What is the conclusion of all this? Sam Rainsy is a dreamer and a fool. He can't separate his idealistic world from reality.

Hey Trash 6:54 PM.
Did you know that Marcos was honor with a state funeral and was attended my many leaders around the world.

Every industrialize nation changes their leaders every 8 to 10 years to avoid absolute power and abuse the power.

USA restricted their Presidency to 2 terms or 10 years.

All commonwealth and industrialized countries such as Canada, Australia and New Zealand have never restricted any term on PM as long as people vote for him/her. So stop misleading people that they change PM every 8 to 10 years.
