Khieu Kanharith, government spokesman and minister on Information, was quoted by The Cambodia Daily as saying that Hun Manet, Hun Sen’s eldest son, will not run for a political seat during the upcoming 2008 general election. Last November, Hun Sen mentioned that his son would be running for a seat at the National Assembly. CPP MP Cheam Yeap also confirmed that Hun Manet is currently not listed on the CPP candidates list. Eng Chhai Eang, SRP Secretary-general, was also quoted by The Cambodia Daily as saying that Hun Manet should be in politics, because being from a new-generation, “he is better educated than the old people who have little education. He is better than the old people who are influenced by the dictatorship.”

in general politics doesn't have to be a dynasty in the family. anyone capable, educated individual ought to be allowed by law to hold office if qualified by law. cambodia should be like this after the khmer rouge era, from now to eternity. qualication by law is better than dynasty style as politics should not be treated as royalty. royalty and politics should not be allowed to mix because royalty is more noble and by birth, but general politics like president and prime minister position ought not dynastic if cambodia want to be fair and for the sake of a nation and national interest. this is not lawless like back before colonial time. nowadays, cambodia has laws that spelled out in the constitution which is the highest law of the land.
any potential leader, especially the new generation of leaders of cambodia ought to have a vision for cambodia. without a vision, a person should not be allowed to run the country. this is how america became so great because our founding fathers have great visions for america, even for future america. so cambodia ought to learn a lot from america, especially in gov't goals to help the nation. it's would be great to make vision a qualification as well, although a vision may be personal. it's depend on how smart that individual is.
