Phnom Penh - A Taiwanese man was expected to be charged in a Cambodian court with attempting to traffic 2.15 kilograms of heroin, officials said Wednesday. Airport and court officials said Wang Kulen, 29, was arrested Tuesday as he allegedly tried to board a flight to Hong Kong from Phnom Penh International Airport with two packages of heroin.

Customs official So Yatha said a search revealed the packages strapped to his chest and stomach.

He faces 20 years in prison if convicted.

Dozens of would-be foreign traffickers have been arrested at the airport in past months during a Cambodian crackdown, the majority of them Taiwanese, prompting speculation that an organized ring is operating in the country.

This is just a byproduct of former Taiwanese president, and I am sure President Ma will take care of it. Taiwan does not want to be know as the home of Chinese's drug haven.

It's happening already, just sit back and learn the result.

Beware of international mafia in Cambodia. A Taiwanese mafia boss, who had an international network and who died last year, fled to and lived in Cambodia in 1996. At that time there was hectic purchase of land. Perhaps just a coincidence?

Usually, the traffikers who get caught are the one who work individually. Should haave that guy bribed the customs or the immigration police, he would never get in trouble; or better be part of the system. A lot of heroin is smuggled daily from Cambodia. However, if his network in taiwan or himself has enough money, they can bribe the tribunal system or just call some taiwanese okhna in cambodia to help them.
Anyway, heroin in Cambodia is not a problem. As long as we have stupid foreigners to buy it in other countries, i don't see, as the other officials in the government, why this business could be interrupt; it is the stupid westerners who die from that drugs not here locally...

Some years ago Prime Minister Hun Sen said that drugs were not a problem created in Cambodia and Cambodia was not to blame for it. He asserted that it was a problem created in advanced countries where they were consumed and requested them to solve it there, not in Cambodia.

That was when Cambodian society did not have any drug problem. One finger was pointed at others, but three other fingers were pointed at oneself. Now, some years after our Prime Minister's blame on those advanced countries, Cambodian society is being ravaged by the same drug problem.

A Khmer saying: "Little brother, don't laugh at me; mind you, the curse will contaminate you in turn." (aun oeuy kom seuch bong proyat pea chlong mdong mneak)

No question that we got the shaft now, Dr Lao, but where do you think it really come from?

Drug usage had been know to spread from the Vietnam War where the US soldier created demand for it. I mean it was big enough that they even had it shipped from Laos.

Cambodia take on the same pattern, but with the UN peace keeper who created demand for it, just as it did with prostitute and spread HIV/AIDS all over.
