A coalition of some 30 Cambodian nongovernmental organizations have expressed concern over what they say is the ruling party's use of the judiciary against opposition parties ahead of national elections in July.
The ''Action Committee'' coalition says the judiciary is being used to prevent politicians from participating in the poll.
Correspondents say court cases are currently pending against two prominent opposition figures, including a criminal lawsuit filed against main opposition leader Sam Rainsy by Foreign Minister Hor Nam Hong.
Earlier this week, the US Ambassador to Cambodia said he was also concerned the suit filed against Sam Rainsy could have an affect on the general election.

Being opposition is not an immunity from rule of law. You can't murdered people and get away with it or anything else.
He may very well right. People needs to know the truth and the truth can only reveal in court, but if the court belongs to the Hor Nam Hong's party, then what is the point of getting Mr. Sam Rainsey in to such nasty court? To slow down the election? or to get Mr. Sam Rainsey out of the election? and why the ruling party was never quetioning about their involment with the Khmer Rouge when everyone knows that they are the former KR themself???!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know clearly about the past of current Khmer leaders, because there is not credible source to confirm the information. Only hear from people who talk to favor their side.
However, even they were once KRs, it is clear that they have different idea so that they ran to Vietnam and come back to oust the KR regime. With this act, their past should not be involve in the current political situation.
I want all the opposition leaders to gain people support from constructive speech, not always talk about bad thing of other parties.
The opposition leaders should know well about the current Cambodian law and of cause try to do everything under the law. Therefore, the ruling party cannot use the law to against them.
That is correct.
If NEC is allowed the prince to freely participate in general election whether he is in the country or not and despite he has been sentenced in absentia for 19 months than can see that the court can prevent SR from participating in election.
The affect that might be surface is members of his party would not feel comfortable during the electoral campaign byt this deosen't meant will deter them or their supporters from voting for him and his party.
In contrary, if court said to find SR guilty and put him behind bar, then people will not forget that and they will turn out in mass to exercise their rights at the polling station. Might be a suprise package for SRP.
No way, when the court put Ah Sam Rainsy behind bar, it will send a strong message to the rest that no one is immune from the rule of law. There will not be any surprise but commendation and approval from the Khmer people.
My beloved 2:11PM!
I am strongly agreeing with ya!
SamRainsy must not only unify all oppositions party, but must also stand tall and strong in order to win this coming election.
My beloved 2:51PM!
Are ya firmly saying that if SamRainsy is behind bar, because of approval from the Youn Master?
Unfortunately the UNTAC criminal law Article 63 is still a criminal law. Ranisy being a member of the Cambodia Bar Council know it well and has filed defamation lawsuits himself. The good news is that they are using the court system to solve this dispute not acting against each other in the streets.
Some dismiss the judges, and in the past their has been good reason for that, but judges are getting better and try to exercise good judgment particularly when the case is a high news item like this one.
Yes, and if they don't trust any judge, they can request a different one at the onset of the trial. There shouldn't be any excuse after that.
Sure, why not, 7:56, what is wrong with that? Yuon know what they are doing, and they are 100 times smarter than you, even their third grader.

Dear 2:51 PM;
Re your above comment. Do agree with you that no one shall be immuned from the rule of law. However, if NEC does let Ranariddh to contest this election freely whether he is in Cambodia or Malaysia then SR is no different
Well, the law applied equally to all. If Ah Xam Rainxy want to lead his party from Malaysia, that will be okay because our jurisdiction is limited.
