Less than one-thousandth Cambodians subscribe to internet

PHNOM PENH, May 3 (Xinhua) -- There are only some 13,000 Cambodians, or less than one-thousandth of the total population, subscribe to internet, according to an industry survey published on Saturday by English-language newspaper the Phnom Penh Post.

Most of them are in capital Phnom Penh and tourism province Siem Reap, said the survey carried out in 14 cities of the country.

Some 21.5 percent of the users are not satisfied with cost, 44.6 percent with reliability and 5.7 percent with speed, it said.

There are now nine internet service providers in Cambodia, with the top one sharing 28.8 percent of the market and the bottom one 1 percent, the survey added.

Most internet operators of Cambodia now use satellite to serve their customers. Nationwide fiber web infrastructure for internet service is still being constructed. This makes internet a luxurious enjoyment for ordinary Cambodians.

That is why we need more Vietcongs involvement to make internet access more affordable for everyone, especially when Vietnam has just successfully put their new communication satellite into space and all.

it is easy to understand. one reason i think is because there are so many internet cafe or cyber center all over phnom penh and other places in cambodia. thus, there is no need to really subscribe to internet at home, unless people want to. to understand it now, it is comparable to having a fridge in cambodia as it is not necessary for the majority of cambodian people as they would go shopping in the local markets daily for fresh meat and produce and thus no need to really have refrigerator at home, unless they want to have it. it is same concept with internet, although, don't hold your breath because anything can change for the better in cambodia, especially with the luxury life style and personal preferences, etc... as i don't think everything is the same anymore in cambodia as cambodia is adjusting to the world community at large. god bless cambodia.

ps: some cynics or pessimists had said the same thing with atm and banking etc about cambodia and a lot more, i'm sure. look now, atm is spreading everywhere like wildfire in cities of cambodia and soon there will be many skyscrapers as well, so nothing is impossible when it comes to development and cambodia's what have not! it is like in nature, after the rainstorm, everything plants will grow back to replenish the evironment. oh, don't forget that cambodia is a tropical country so everything grow back very fast after the rain. and cambodian people are resilient as well.

Oh well! This is just another AH HUN SEN achievement in the field of Information Technology and how the fuck Cambodian people can catch up with the rest of the world!

The cost of electricity is too high and 80% of Cambodian population can’t even afford electricity!

Yeah, but we have a lot of hydroelectric plants coming soon.

development and real changes takes some times; please don't expect it to happen over night. having said that, as long as it doesn't wait too long as nobody can wait forever! this is where the balancing act comes in. thinking by looking at the big picture of the whole wide world around you would help a lot as well as practice the use of imagination, having vision for the future, etc. helps too.
