One step closer to Uncle Ho's Indochinese Federation dream

Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia set up economic association

May 7, 2008
VNA (Hanoi)

The Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Association for Economic Co-operation Development made its official debut in Hanoi on May 6.

The voluntary association aims to boost support among members and raise the efficiency of economic and investment co-operation between member countries.

It will also gather members’ opinions on strategies and policies relating to economic and investment co-operation.

Beginning operation in August last year, the association now has 500 members, including 200 Vietnamese organisations and enterprises currently working with Laos and Cambodia or aspiring to co-operate and invest in the countries.

Under its five-year action plan, the association will organise forums and fairs and provide opportunities for members to exchange experiences and information on economic and investment co-operation.

The association plans to implement consultancy and legal assistance services for enterprises following the three countries’ local and international law.

According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the association will further economic and investment relations between Vietnam and the two neighbouring countries and contribute to improving economic development and people’s living conditions.

Vietnam and Laos currently have five-year trade agreements and annual trade protocols that have opened legal corridors for economic and commercial co-operation between the two countries.

As a result, bilateral trade turnover increased rapidly from US $167 million in 2005 to US $312 million in 2007 and is expected to hit US $1 billion in 2010.

In addition, the two governments have issued several policies to support and encourage investment. By late 2007, Vietnam’s registered investment capital in Laos was more than US $1 billion, ranking third among 40 countries and territories investing in the country. Meanwhile, Laos’ investment capital in Vietnam reached US $48.3 million.

Vietnam and Cambodia also agreed to support enterprises investing in specific economic fields and boost economic co-operation between border provinces.

In 2006-07, the value of goods exchanged between the two countries increased 30%. Last year, Vietnam earned US $991 million from exports to Cambodia and imports came in at US $202 million. Trade between the two countries is expected to reach US $2 billion by 2010.

Vietnam’s direct investment in Cambodia reached US $90 million last year, while Cambodian enterprises invested US $5.2 million in Vietnam.

As members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia have also boosted co-operation and support within regional and international frameworks.

That's what Sihanouk and Hun Sen Viet/Yuon puppet and the Viet agressors want. But the majority of Khmer people don't want that. Vote SRP to rid of the Viet agressors/invaders and their dogs: Sihanouk and Hun Sen.

Vietcong Go home!!!
Khmer needs no Vietcong on Khmer land!!!

Please remember the universal language about the Viet parasites:

"The world sees and knows the Viet true color too well already"!

The gimmick will result in Cambodia wide open to Vietnamese economic exploitation and Vietnamese workers flooding the country. Vietnamese colonization is a sure thing at the end.
All the opposition parties should denounce this and brink this to Cambodian people at the coming election!

if it for better life of the cambodian people, then ok; however, if it only about greedy viets who try to dominate cambodia, then forget it! that won't last long as there are khmer nationalists that will drive the viets out in no time. so, be careful, viets, when playing with khmer people as we are not that fond of viets either. in fact we demand our koh tral back and freedom for the indigenous khmer krom people of the mekong delta region. cambodia is too mindful of that lost, thanks to the french colonialism and maybe the weak monarchy as well that contributed to that loss of khmer land. as they say, lost but not forgot!

the vietnamese can help in the name of friendship only, just don't try to annex or steal our land because that's another story altogether. khmer people can understand that economic prosperity knows no boundary, however don't take advantage of cambodia by using your generosity or by mentioning too much your help to liberate cambodia from the KR rules or whatever because we are not that dump as you viets people and gov't might think that because of our passionate, or sympathic buddhist approach that you can take full advantage of kindness and generosity to take over cambodia or something. so be careful as cambodia is not in the dark age anymore like the time when you people can just march westward or southward into the khmer territory again because this time around you people may lose more than what you bargain for. enough is enough already. it is not smart for you people to keep taking advantage of cambodia, even if we were preoccuppied with civil disagreement or civil conflict or what have we, still, it doesn't mean that you can just steal our land or take over our gov't or whatever. because when we do it back to your country, i'm sure you will not like it either. god bless cambodia.

It's nothing wrong with the agreement to support enterprise in specific economic fliedsas long as clauses in the agreement where appropriate and applicable to protect local jobs and employees rather than allowed any enterprise exploit or import non-skilled workers into the country.

they have to use cambodian labor as people in cambodia need jobs to help support their family. cambodia don't need import of vietnamese people to come work in cambodia like during the french colonial period as the french were so biased against cambodians back then and they would bring my vietnam workers to do jobs in cambodia. i'm sure cambodian people of the 21st century would not allow that to happen again like during the french period in cambodia. when in cambodia, they need to hire cambodian workers as people in cambodia are in need of jobs as well. and don't tell me oh, but they lack skills or whatever. if they lack skill cambodia demand that that company must train them in according to cambodia's labor law, etc..., no exception.
