Thailand may ask Unesco to again postpone its decision on the registration of the ancient ruins at Preah Vihear as a World Heritage site this year if it is unable to convince Cambodia to settle the land dispute through joint management, Foreign Minister Noppadon Pattama said yesterday.
Cambodia had ignored the joint management proposal for the overlapping area around the ancient ruins, which covers 4.6 square kilometres, and had lobbied hard for the registration of Preah Vihear, which will be considered at a Unesco meeting in Quebec in July.
However, Mr Noppadon told a radio programme yesterday morning that he hoped Cambodia would consider the Thai proposal or Bangkok will ask for a postponement. Last year Unesco delayed making a decision, pending agreement between the two sides.
Mr Noppadon said the Preah Vihear issue was sensitive as the registration is to take place at the same time as the general election in Cambodia.
The minister said it was necessary for both countries to negotiate through diplomatic channels, and added that he planned to raise the issue with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen tomorrow when he meets him in Hong Kong.
Cambodian Commerce Minister Cham Prasidh criticised the move by Thailand to link the Preah Vihear issue to the overlapping areas for offshore oil exploration.
''If we solve the Preah Vihear case, then we also solve the overlapping zone offshore. They're completely different things, the minister told the Cambodia Daily newspaper.

50/50 of 4.6 sqKm settlement means 2.3 sqKm gain for both sides, and everyone will be on the way out of poverty. It's definitely worth it.
I rarely support the action of the Phnom Penh government, but on this issue I fully support Hun Sen on NO negotiation on Preah Vihear with the Thais.
Siamese should stop bullying Khmer Nation, Prasat Preah is Khmer patrimoine. Back off and go to learn more Khmer History then learning how to pronounce Khmer Words such as: KHMER instead of Khmenn,PREAH VIHEA JEA PRASAT BORAAN KHMER instead of Hindu shrine, PRORJEAJU-ON KHMER instead of phuok ophyoop and above all you shall know where the Khmer Border limited is, back then. Stop dreaming jerk !.

The total land area recognised by the UN is 69,898 square miles or 181,035 square kilometer...we will not allow the Thai theive take away another 4.6 square kilometers around Preah Vihear since this was recognised by the world court verdict of 1962...Mr. Noppadon is insulting His Majesty King Bhumibol's stance that Thailand should obey the world court ruling of 1962...which noted that the Khmer temple of Preah Vihear and its surrounding area belongs to Cambodia...One day, the Emerald Buddha in Wat Phra Keo in Bangkok will be returned to its original owner--Cambodia...
We Khmer should learn to be strong like the Israelis in terms of regaining our lost territories...we Khmer need to recapture our lost "Suvannaphuom" back like the 6-day war of Israel in 1967.
Present-day Thailand, Laos, Southern Vietnam and the Malay peninsula was at one time Khmer territory. We will never give up what was lost...one day will be part of the Moha Nokor again.
Emerald Buddha in Bangkok was stolen from Laos, not Cambodia.
12;35pm
we khmer only know how to killed each other.past and present and future.
when the last time we khmer gained an square inch from the west or from the east??.
I wish we all khmer just try to keep 69,898 square miles or 181,035square kilometer before we khmer lost another square inch.
here link belov and you do the math, see we khmer will last 6 days war if you want we khmer to regain the lost.

5:19pm, point well taken!!!
12:35, just hope that we have our own land to call home tomorrow. Stop getting to far ahead of ourselves. The viet is colonizing Cambodia with the help of its puppet government in Phnom Penh that's our first priority concern now. However, I respect and love your patriotism for Khmer race.
Khmer-sino-lao
No, the emerald Buddha was stolen from Cambodia. You dumb ass if you don't know go learn some more history. I fully support 12:20PM.
Only Cambodia gives in to their demand, then they allow our temple to be registered in the UNESCO? What is that has to do with Thailand of Cambodia temple? Get lost and leave Cambodia and Unesco alone. UNESCO must not let Thailand fool them like a little kid. Clearly Thailand is the trouble maker who has never satisfied with all they had stole ...
Stop try to steal the temple from the Khmer-Thai. They ain't gonna like it.
I am Siam King Bhutmyball and I must have Preah Vihear now.
