Thailand's perfidy? It agrees to the listing of Preah Vihear in public, but it is doing everything behind the scene to block it

Move to block cambodia's temple proposal likely to fail: Army

A move to block Cambodia's proposal to list Preah Vihear temple as a United Nations World Heritage Site will probably fail as the government in Phnom Penh has managed to lobby at least 21 countries to take its side, a military source said yesterday.

A meeting between senior officials led by Foreign Ministry permanent secretary Virasakdi Futrakul and Cambodia's Deputy Prime Minister Sok An over the last two days has been "useless" since Phnom Penh has already achieved its goal, the source said.

Thailand had delayed the United Nations Educational, Science and Culture Organisation's decision to list the ancient Hindu temple as a World Heritage Site after Cambodia proposed the temple area along with the annexation of some 4.6 square kilometres of overlapping area, claimed by both sides.

The temple belongs to Cambodia according to a ruling by the International Court of Justice in 1962, but the land below the hill-top temple claimed by the two countries remained unclear and the both sides agreed not to make any changes before the boundary demarcation was settled.

The listing of Preah Vihear as a World Heritage Site has nothing to do with national sovereignty, but if the area were annexed into part of the temple, Thailand would de facto lose the area, the military source said.

The Foreign Ministry proposed to Cambodia the establishment of a joint body to run the overlapping area before listing the temple as a World Heritage Site.

The two countries have not yet reached any common ground on the idea.

this reminded me a lot like the phnom penh's squatters story. it's like a gold rush story or something; before the news of the proposed development of the preah vihear areas, the thai didn't have anything to protest cambodia about; but all of a sudden with the news of cambodia's proposal with unesco world heritage site, the thai scrambles to try to get the piece of the pie without regards to cambodia's well-known sole ownership of our preah vihear temple long ago and made permanent since the ruling of the world international court in 1962. too, bad, cambodia can not share the management or whatever with thailand despite whatever justification the thai military or what have you might try ton fabricate to solicit the world's sympathy for their criminal acts against cambodia's sovereignty of the preah vihear temple and areas. i'm sure when the world are educated about cambodian history and civilization of the khmer, thailand is very embarrass to make its last desparate, ditch attempt to claim for itself cambodia's sacred god-king temple of preah vihear. they (thailand) may fool the ignorant, however, there are a lot more educated world citizens out there that they can't recruit and fool as easily as the young, the innocent, and the ignorant individuals of khmer history and greatness of the yesteryears. god bless cambodia and her beautiful people of the khmer of angkor civilization.

So what do you expected the Thai to have done when Cambodia didn't list the Temple as world heritage?

"In 2006-07, the value of goods exchanged between the two countries increased 30%. Last year, Vietnam earned US $991 million from exports to Cambodia and imports came in at US $202 million. Trade between the two countries is expected to reach US $2 billion by 2010."

I can't wait! Hurry up!

Well 12:08 AM, the thai should have just learned to scratch their arse first. lol! Joking asides, the Thai should just mind their own business by doing nothing because Preah Vihear belongs to Cambodia as the world court had decided way back then. Does the world now begins to see the true color of the Thai?

The least that the Thai could do is just be happy for Cambodia!

cambodia finally realized that the thai military or whatever want to keep the preah vihear area isolated forever so they can easily claim it as they wanted it so bad, despite it belongs to cambodia. that was their utimate trickery. it goes with the whole cambodia as well if thailand have a choice. however, they have always failed times and again. my good advice to cambodia is to never ever isolate any part of cambodia again for that matter. always establish a village, township or development or whatever to mark our own territory and keep our territories far, far away from isolation because only isolation will give thailand the strength to claim what they want. please remember that and drill that idea to every future leaders of cambodia.

cambodia just want thailand to look at preah vihear from over the fence or with binocular only and stop dreaming about ownership of it as it is not yours in the first place. and definitely stop justifying your claim as cambodia will not buy it and the world will not buy that either. maybe thailand can tell its military to respect cambodia's sovereignty, then just maybe cambodia will allow thai people to visit our temples just like all other tourists who love the khmer temples and history. otherwise, if that is hard to do, then stay away from preah vihear and cambodia altogether! is that fairness?

Thailand used to get everything they wanted from Cambodia. Now just suck it up and accept the fact that it's Cambodia's.

12:19, the thai doesn't dispute Cambodia own the temple. They just want the Khmer in Thailand to have some right to it. What is wrong with that?

1:20am, yeah, right! another typical ignorant thai justification. remember to read the above thread carefully, what part of we don't buy it can't you ignorant people understand? all khmer people are always welcome to visit our temples, just don't make claim for thailand, you moron!

Yeah, that is why the Thai Government want to talk about joint development. That way, Khmers on both sides can benefit from their temple.

You're being funny here 1:20 AM. That is when my joke about "the thai should learn how to scratch their arse first" is all about, now that you have put your question that way. Thanks for the entertainment. We'll chat more, okay?

Hey dude, the Thai government doesn't just represent Thai alone. They also represent Khmer in their land as well, alright?

Anonymous said...

Can you say the same thing about the Khmer Krom people in their land in Vietnam, 2:12 AM?

Anonymous said...

No problem, Yuon government is representing them in the South East. When they request it, we can set aside 10-15km about the border for join development there.

Anonymous said...

To plunder more Khmer land...yeap!

Anonymous said...

Hey 2:12 !
Thai government doesn't care about "joint development" of any Khmer surin or any one else. All they do care about is encroaching Khmer lands. That's why Cambodian government had to defend their rights upon the International Court in La Hague in 1962

Thai generals and warlords have taken enough Khmer during the last centuries.

They'd better try to encroach Burmese lands and we'll see what will happen with Burmese generals...

If smart enough, reveal your name as you usually did in opposting kind last time! " A military source said... useless and fail..." The meeting is not useless at all, it must be a fruitful for my beloved Cambodia!

Thai Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Virasakdi Futrakul failed to protest openly to the media here. Otherwise, he would not be able to board home!

Don't fully protest after you arrive home. Tell your King and your people that "I am barking too much and now my energy ran out." You should also quote this simple sentence to your leaders that "I also am sorry for not able to persuade Mr. Sok An and Mr. Hun Sen to have them share 50/50 of sacred Preah Vihear in Unesco registration for World Heritage or 50/50 for management."

These two sentences would be found online in a lesson of Special English program for Thais

"Each horse has a lot of experience but I want the horse that can run on the right track,'' said Mr Noppadon.

On behalf of not a Siam or a Siamist, I agree with Mr. Noppadon completely. These two experient horses would be out of energy in few minutes of racing against Cambodian men. Cambodian men will drive these two horses properly on the right track to the slaughter house in Central Phnom Penh or to the dump site at city outskirt of Stung Meanchey.

Confirmed and firmly confirmed!!! As Lbang Chouch has told you above. Your fucking two horses and others are being out of energy. We are riding them to the dump site, not slaughter house because we would not like eating the horse meat like we do Sushi.

You are on the rope, for sure, so please ask your side-taken-arbitrator for biase help to bury your body!

I dare the Thai army and government make claims on Burmese border land...the Burmese government of General Than Shwe will raze Bangkok to ashes as their ancestors once did with Ayutthaya in 1767! Hun Sen can then send our superb Khmer army to strangle the Thais from the east and regain our "lost territory" from "Moha Nokor" from Chian mai to Khorat and all the way down the Malay peninsula.

Plunder khmer's land to who, 5:49?

6:31, the 1962's court case just determined which country the country belong to. Its does not strip any Khmer in Thailand from its ownership. Note that there is a distinct difference between a country (an objec) and a person (a human).
