Dear Mr. Editor:
I need to correct the article by your Bangkok correspondent, my friend Mark Dodd, in your yesterday's issue of your esteemed newspaper entitled “Thailand cedes ancient temple”:
In effect, Mark Dodd wrote: “Thailand is moving to accept a new map that will uphold Cambodia's World Heritage claim on the ancient 10th century Khmer temple that straddles the countries’ common border - a long-contested site and former Khmer Rouge sanctuary that almost brought the two claimant nations to war in the 1960s".
A the outset, I would like to point out that the Temple has always been part of Cambodia’s sovereignty and was so confirmed by the International Court of Justice in 1962, following a request made to the ICJ by His Majesty King Norodom Sihanouk of Cambodia.
Thailand is not ceding anything to Cambodia but rather facilitating the inscription of the Preah Vihear Temple on UNESCO's World Heritage list. The granting of World Heritage Site status by UNESCO has nothing whatsoever to do with the sovereignty of the Temple, which has always been on Cambodian territory and was built by the Khmer kings, ancestors of the current Cambodian monarchs. Last year Thailand opposed the temple's UNESCO listing on grounds that the Cambodian map of the site included some disputed territories, Cambodia redrew the map last month, and the Thai cabinet approved the revised Cambodian proposal.
However, it appears that some Thai government leaders, under pressure from demonstrations organized by the opposition, have since changed their position and announced last Sunday that Thailand would present its own request to UNESCO for the listing of parts of the claimed territory as World Heritage Site also.
Yours sincerely,
(JULIO A. JELDRES)

I would like to thank your excellency Julio A. Jeldres for confirming and clearifying the misunderstand on the issue of Khmer Phrea Vihear temple.
I believe the issue of Phrea Vihear must solve base on solid evident and through uphold of international law.
Halaluyah!
Thank you your Excellency Mr. Julio Jeldres for standing up to the Siems for the Khmer people. We are grateful for your truth and courage.
Respectfully,
Your Admirer
Thank you Mr Jeldres.
Some Thais still claim Preah Vihear as theirs. Maybe because many Khmers are living in Thailand due to annexation of Surin, Si Sa Ket, etc ?
" ....which has always been on Cambodian territory and was built by the Khmer kings, ..."
Khmer Kings and common Khmers.
Kong Moeung
H.E. Julio is even better than the current government who tries to protect the interests of Cambodia from the illegal claim of Thais over the sovereignty of Cambodia.
thank you H.E. for your supports.
Thank you for point that out again sir.
Now up to Cambodia government (using your brain). Don't know why this is happening again we won the world court in 1962 already, to me whatever we want to do with this temple is up to us. We don't have to notify thai government.
That is a joke that the Thai request the surrounding area that belong to the temple to the UNESCO? Come on get a grip!! No matter what, Cambodia should reject this claim too. They have no rights to claim part of the temple. HUN SEN please do something!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Khmer in Thailand had lost their temple to the Khmer in Cambdia because they played Mr Nice Guy up to 1962. They was tricked and given false promises and all. I doubt that that is going to happened again.
Don't forget that the SIAM used to be Khmer slaves. Under the Khmer empire, we control almost the whole Southest Asia. Now since they think they can claim Prasat Preah Vihear and matter of fact we can submit the request and claim all the Prasat in Thailand as well.
We have all the proofs and also we should reclaim all the provinces back. Remember stupid we will win!
Yeah, but they have a lot of Khmer living with them right now.
Ola padre, can I have what Senior Julio have for a change?
Oy mate! torture or tortilla?
Real good Julio,mercie on you.
Thanks, but I don't believe you much about this issue, Ambassador Julio A. Jeldres. If Cambodia don't stand up for it, Thailand will take this advantage already.
Thailand is thief and its behavor proofing as such. If UNESCO must put an end to this very issue by allowing Prah Vihear to be registered.
that is a good that Mr.Jeldres points out. however we all know that temple should have been a discussion topic with thailand. no need to bother talking to thai about it.
thanks,
chan,
correction: should have not been a discussion topic with f... thais
i think cambodia knows what we are doing and waiting patiently for unesco upcoming decision to list our preah vihear. plus, we know how unesco is going to make their decision based on factual evidence and the 1962 court ruling. law is law, thailand can cry and act in tantrum like an animal all they want. unesco will uphold the the laws that enforce international treaties and world court ruling. god bless cambodia.
