The National Election Committee (NEC) and Comfrel estimated that on Thursday 26 June, the first day of the election campaign, everything went smoothly and in a good atmosphere.

No irregularities were observed, not even “disputes” took place between the various political parties, said Tep Nytha, NEC secretary-general, who underscored that the political parties were able to parade in the various cities without any problem. This also happened in Phnom Penh where the city hall prohibited all political parades along major thoroughfares and public places. Tep Nytha said that the municipal election committee facilitated the parades while taking care of traffic.

Regarding the posting of posters and stickers bearing the party logo, the majority of which belong to the CPP, along several houses in the city, Tep Nytha reminded that this practice is legal as long as the homeowners were asked and they have given the authorization to do so. However, Tep Nytha said that this request is not always made by the various parties.

Mar Sophal, a senior investigator for Comfrel, is happy to see that all political parties could parade in Phnom Penh without any problem. He noted that the CPP clearly has at its disposition more means than other parties, and it also used different strategies: “The CPP favors displaying signs and holding parades, whereas the other parties choose to meet the citizens face to face, and handing them their party programs. I think the second method is more efficient.”

i don't they anybody sell cambodian islands to foreigner, i think what you mean is cambodia leases the some of our islands to big well-known foreign investors for a certain numbers of years because did you know cambodia do have laws that forbid the selling of khmer land to foreign investors outright? so leases is the terms to say, not selling. please know the difference. leasing means foreign investors pays the rent to use the land, whereas selling outright which the laws forbid means they own the land. i think in cambodia foreigner can own real estate only but not land as land belongs to cambodia, the gov't, not private people.please know the law and the difference. thank you.
