Prime minister Hun Sen signed 3 sub-decrees on 09 June, ordering that measures be taken to confiscate 3 lakes located in Ponhea Loeu district: Samrong lake, Samrith lake, and Khyorng lake, and placed them as public property. The Koh Santepheap newspaper reported that Hun Sen’s lake confiscation sub-decrees was announced to the local villagers by Lim Kean Hor, the minister of water resources and meteorology in the morning of 11 June, at the Wat Vihear Luong pagoda, during his visit to 8 communes in Ponhea Loeu district. Lim Kean Hor said that because Cambodia is not at war, the development is progressing, and the price of land has increased, but for businessmen who have money to purchase lands, and fill in lakes which hold much needed water for agriculture, including public lakes, they have absolutely no right to fill in these lakes to turn them as their private land property. This is why Hun Sen issued the sub-decree dated 09 June to confiscate back these 3 lakes in Pohnea Loeu district.

good move to control illegal land swapping. otherwise people with money will buy up all land and become even more rich as some of them are super rich. talk about the power of the american dollars!

placing land under gov't ownership is one way to fix land dispute, especially those without proper land title by law. just using "we live there a long time" is not sufficient to prove of your ownership.
