Keo Puth Reasmey, the Funcinpec leaders, expressed his hope that his party will receive seats at the National Assembly (NA) during the upcoming general election. In an interview with The Mekong Times, Keo puth Reasmey said that the reason his party hopes to get seats at the NA is because of the internal reforms undertaken by the party in the past two years. He said that following the reforms, the party received more support because people start to understand the reason for the party reforms. Keo Puth Reasmey placed all the blames on Prince Norodom Ranariddh for dragging down Funcinpec’s popularity, but he said that since Funcinpec acquired its new image and new leadership structure, he believes that Funcinpec will receive seats at the NA because of the dynamic growth in the party support. This is opposite to the past commune election. Keo Puth Reasmey added that, based on the number of votes during the commune election, Funcinpec wouldn’t even obtain a single seat at the NA, this is because the party just held its extraordinary congress on 18 October 2006, this congress led to a disintegration of the party force. He said, that, however, for the general election, the situation is different, and he believed that his party will obtain seats at the NA.
