On Monday, Cham Prasidh, the minister of Commerce, said that Cambodia plans to ban the import of cars and motorcycles older than 2000, in order to protect the consumers and the environment. Cham Prasidh told The Mekong Times that: “We will no longer allow the import of old cars anymore because this action will turn Cambodia into the trashcan for the world.” Cham Prasidh added: “We must have a policy responding to the stages of development. Before, we were poor, we used secondhand cars, but now we cannot use them anymore. I will advise Samdach prime minister Hun Sen on this case and let him decide whether to order this ban now, or wait until the next legislative mandate.” Cham Prasidh added also: “In the past, we paid attention to good roads, but now, we must encourage the import of new cars and motorcycles into Cambodia.”

Environmentally, the Phnom Penh city does not need to be polluted like the city of Long Beach. The pollution can stay in the United States and elsewhere ... but not here (Cambodia).

yes, good move, cambodia. please ban all second-hand electronic or motor vihecles as they can cause more problems for people who use them, not to mention the pollution form old, outdated cars that are being brought to cambodia. cambodian people want and need new cars and brand new appliances, not used ones as they now can afford such luxurious items. welcome to the world of development community, cambodia. full speed ahead and god bless cambodia.
