KI-Media Note: The following are reactions to the news that Thailand's Foreign Minister plans to ask UNESCO to list the Preah Vihear reservoir and staircase - both of which are located inside the disputed border zone - as World Heritage site. The report also indicated that Hun Sen's regime agrees to this Thai request, which is tantamount to recognizing that the dispute border zone now belongs to Thailand.

How can Thailand ask UNESCO for World Heritage Protection over the reservoir and staircases leading to the Preah Vihear temple when they are located "on disputed land", would not this be part of Thailand's desire to get UNESCO to recognize Thai sovereignty over the reservoir and staircases? when the matter has not yet been finalized by the joint Thai-Cambodian Committee.
I find it appalling that the RCG has agreed to Thailand doing this, as stated in the report, without waiting for the assessment of the joint Committee. Anything goes in HS's Cambodia!

The issue of the reservoir and the staircases of Preah Vihear should be put forward for debate at this up-coming election! Our territorial sovereignty is everyone concern. Should Hun Sen government give away this sacred territory to Thailand despite the decision by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in Hague, on June 15, 1962? Based on the Siam-France 1907´s map, the International Court of Justice has recognized that the temple and the surrounding area belonged to Cambodia. Giving away our territory despite the International Court decision is an act of betrayal that should be judged by the entire Khmer population at the next month election! The opposition parties and the whole Cambodian population should have the last word on the issue of utmost importance! Cambodia doesn’t belong to Hun Sen government alone. National sovereignty is sacred and should be everyone business. All the opposition parties should be united on the issue so that we can defeat Hun Sen government at July 27 election and save our sovereignty on Preah Vihear temple and the surrounding area.

King Suryavaraman built Preah Viheah, but his children are in Cambodia and Thailand, and they share the same culture, so they claimed.
We have to make it clear that the reservoir and the staircase also belongs to Cambodia according to the World Court's decision in 1962. The government must oppose the Thai's attempt to list it as their land since it is in Cambodian territory.
If the thai are protesting, why can't we take them to the court and use the original map to defeat them again in court.
