In an interview given to The Mekong Times regarding whether royal family members have the right to be involved in politics or not, Dr. Chhim Phal Vorun, director of the institute for Civil Education and a Constitutional expert, said that as Cambodian citizens, royal family members have the right to be involved in politics. He explained that the monarchy and the royal family members are two separate issues. Royal family members do not constitute the monarchy, this means that royal family members cannot defend the monarchy by themselves should all the Cambodian people stop defending the monarchy. Therefore, royal family members are individuals who belong to the royal family members but they are still Khmer citizens. Therefore, as Cambodian citizens, they have the right to be involved in politics. However, the question is: if they don they royal uniform to be involved in politics, they cannot forget one obligation, they cannot affect the honor and the name of the king, the throne and the monarchy. Dr. Chhim Phal Vorun said that if the royals use the people’s rights in politics, and they also claim the exclusivity to the monarchy and the king, then he thinks that this would be a waste.

thank you, dr. chhim phal vorun. i agree and see you good point of view. it does make a lot sense hearing from the expert like you. thank you.

yes, i agree that monarchy and royal family members are two separate issues altogether, and to mix them up by misunderstanding or miscommunicating is not a good way to see the distinction between the two issue. yes, a royal family member or relative or anyone who had tie or related to the prestigious royal family do have that rights as a privite citizen to get involve in politics altogether. however, the distinction ought be not the reigning monarch or the king or queen for that matter can be involved in active politics. it would be great to hear what other good khmer citizens are saying about this issue as well. what do everyone else think about this sensitive issue? please be constructive in your point of view. thank you and god bless.

I think the distinction here as well is the key words "private citizen" as compare to "public citizen". so-called private citizen should have all the rights giving to all khmer citizen in the constitution, whereas, the the so-called "public citizen" e.g. the "reigning King or Queen Monarchy should not have that same rights as modern history have shown that to interfere with the works of public service in the kingdom; and it is restricted for a good reason. it is called constitutional monarchy as you and I and everyone else knew already. We have to have a good rule of law, otherwise, we will be like the KR era again. I hope we can learn from the bad example of the stupid, idiot KR regime which was a lawless society where injustice reigned. God Bless our beloved Kingdom of Cambodia eternally.

PS: this makes a good topic or thesis for doctoral dissitation. god bless all who pursue this field. just look at Cambodia for your school's topics, galore!
