The question is whether RGC shall legalized this industry and recognized its as a profession.

Many families really don't want their female children to go in this trade as considered by the society as inappropriate and morally disgusting profession.

To the people in the industry they want the profession legally recognize.

Law on Suprression on Kidnapping, trafficking and exploitation of human beings is there to protect in particular women and female underaged children from being exploited [as claimed by NGO or victims themselves that they have been lured or forced into such profession].

pesronally, don't think and cannot see that any lawmaker from either political party would rush out to propose amendment to such law or propose a new law to legalize the industry.

In the west the industry is legalized to tighten control on possibility oppression and forceable women into trade as well as controlling STD.

Whichever way it goes, the society will judge people in the trade and that is including their own family, if the RGC falis to legalize the profession is then seen as discrimnating againsgt people in the trade.

if you ask me, prostitution is the world's oldest profession. i don't think anything can stop them from wanting sex. so to suppression someone that depend on it for their livelihood is like giving them no freedom at all. the question should be how safe are they doing it? plus, it makes it interesting as this kind of sex business is existed everywhere on the planet, not just unique to cambodia alone. thank you.

True, but these people are not complaining about lack of sex.

But seriously, it is controversial, and it depends on the value of the community. Therefore, we have to balance between the right to live (or rather not to suffer from lacking job) and the health (who's going to pay for HIV/AIDS...) and the value of the community. Thus, don't expect this to be the same as Denmark, France, ..., or the US.

Cambodia nationals voluntarily leaving their rural homes to seek a living in provincial cities and the Capital are not trafficked. To say different is nonsense.

What is very clear is this new Anti-trafficking Laws, one supported and principally financed by US aid money, is yet another example of the weak RGC allowing foreign governments to dictate Cambodian domestic policy.

With an election coming up, HE Hun Sen needs to demonstrate he is in charge of this country and not the US State department. He needs to suspend not only the failed Anti-Trafficking law, but those responsible for its institutionalized rapes, beatings and thefts. Serious crime has been committed under the name of Hun Sen's government: He has no other choice but to distance himself from this disaster or be tarnished by collective responsibility.

Sex work might not be the most prestigious job in the world but that is no excuse for the extrajudical violence which is now clearly taking place, a policy executed under the full control and approval of the Interior Ministry.

Because of this totally unacceptable sexual violence, Interior Ministry anti-trafficking chief Bith Kimhong should be fired for his incompetence and his inability to distinguish between a bull and cow: Cambodian voluntary workers are not trafficked. He makes an ass of himself with his foolishness.

He is a disgrace to Cambodia, and the actions of his failed policy is clearly damaging the tourist industry of this country.

His position is untenable. Bith Kimhong must go.
