Former king Norodom Sihanouk has asked that his name be kept out of the history of the founding of the Funcinpec party, in order to maintain a throne "under threat."
According to a signed letter obtained to VOA Khmer meant for the former king's Web site, Sihanouk asks that all Cambodians refrain from attaching his name or the name of his supporters to the establishment of Funcinpec, the ruling government's coalition party.
Sihanouk has held great political sway in the past, but he abdicated the throne in 2004 and has said in the past he wants to distance himself from politics.
Funcinpec suffered a resounding defeat in local polls last year, but Prime Minister Hun Sen has said he will keep it as the ruling Cambodian People's Party coalition partner.

Why! Because he is too shameful to face reality? Or too shameful to history?? During 93 when we have UNTAC help us with the election and FUNCINPEC won and should have total control over Cambodia why did he called HUN SEN to join? HUN SEN is out of subject but SIhanouk called him back just to kill his FUNCINPEC party..Man history will record this.
What so stupid! why not disolve the FUCIPEC party? No one kno what the fuck it mean and it is no Cambodian, or Khmere Mone word, not even Baly or Hundo!

All these HUN SEN today is because SIHANOUK too. If he didn't call HUN SEN back to stab his only made name party (FUNCINPEC) to the ground. And another matter, when RANARIDDH was in control as 1st PM , Ranariddh sold almost all high positions to the rich and left those who were former Resistance force tilt. Sihanouk+Ranariddh destroyed Cambodia. I blame them.

Sihanouk's desire to keep the monarchy in Cambodia at all costs, but without any real meaning, will eventually destroy it completely and in such a way that most Cambodians will not miss it and may even consider its disappearance as a blessing.
What a dangerous game he is playing! His tendency to be mercurial in order to protect his own intersts more than those of his own country and citizens will always be his downfall.
As time passes and more Cambodians become more informed through time and education, he will be judged more harshly than he has ever realized, considering that he is a man of great controversy.
If monarchy exists only to support the ruling party and itself and does not have any clear vision and admirable courage, whatsoever, as can be seen up to now, to provide some kind of checks and balances against mistreatment of Cambodians by their own government and not to defend the interest of Cambodia and her citizens as a whole against any forms of injustice, then its existence, though still remaining, is completely meaningless and it will eventually die with the blessing of the majority of Khmers.
The real killer of Cambodian monarchy is the royal family, itself who continues, time after time, to demonstrate its inability to provide cool shade for the poor and weak Khmer people from their abusive leaders in power and their ambitious neighbours.
These Cambodians who curse King Norodom Sihanouk are clueless.
I am a monarchist. But I don't want royal family's members get involved in politic.
If those political paries are ROYALIST, This means other parties are not. It's true that some politicians use "Royalist" and the Former King name to gain political benefit. But We must be aware that by doing so, they are destroying the Monarchie.Ranarith himself and other crasy princes must be responsible for this.
Hun Sen is more clever than those insane princes, although he is a valet of Vietnam.
If you Princes keep condescending to compete with common people, you are destroying the Monarchy. And then Hun Sen will take over the THRONE.
