SIEM REAP (Cambodia) - FOREIGN ministers from Cambodia and Thailand opened a new round of talks here on Monday to try to resolve a nearly two-week military standoff over an ancient temple.
Thousands of soldiers have deployed since July 15 to a small patch of land around the 11th-century Preah Vihear temple, which sits atop a mountain overlooking the Cambodian jungle.
The ruins of the Khmer temple belong to Cambodia, but the most practical entrance begins at the foot of a mountain in Thailand, and both sides claim some of the surrounding territory.
Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong and his newly appointed Thai counterpart Tej Bunnag began the talks around 10.20am (11.20am Singapore time) with a handful of top military officials from both countries, Thai and Cambodian officials said.
Talks between Thailand's armed forces chief General Boonsrang Niumpradit and Cambodia Defence Minister Tea Banh ended a week ago without resolution, with neither side backing down on their territorial claims.
The International Court of Justice ruled in 1962 that the temple belongs to Cambodia, but surrounding land remains in dispute.

The New Sun rising on the old Kingdom! Samdech Preah Bat Maha Decho Hun Sen Varman.
We the Cambodian people will not complain of anyting as long as the other party is not in power.
Since along run with the Royal Family parties were down hill we never fell anyone elese dare with us.
Our first gold is to fall down the Royal parties, and the other is next and next...bring them into chaos Scenarios.
The preah Vihear problem, the CPP will tell the Tailand to pull their troops out within afew week.
Don't you all see? we better than all of you, including the King Father and his king son.
Important points to remember:
A)If the ruling party gave in, yes, indeed, it was a political charade, which played by both sides. B)If the high-level talks failed, the ruling party is partly played political card. C)If the border crisis escalated into a war, then the ruling is completely exculpated.
Now, we're anxiously looking forward to the outcome of the meeting.
People are waiting!
To the opposition leader: now is the time to use poeople power and have a mass demonstration against electoral fraud. Also, we want the U.S. embassador to join in the demonstration to demonstrate to the people of Cambodia that the election was cheated by their leader.
People power!
