Cambodian PM: Problems of border dispute on Thai side

PHNOM PENH, July 29 (Xinhua) -- The current problem about the settlement of the two-week-long Cambodian-Thai border dispute is what, when and how the political decision will be take by the Thai government, said Prime Minister Hun Sen here Tuesday.

"For our side, we have no problem. The problem is with the Thai side. We understand their difficulty. They need discussion and approval of the cabinet," he told reporters at the foreign ministry after meeting with Japanese visitors.

Monday after 12 hours of intensive talks in Siem Reap province, foreign ministers of Cambodian and Thailand agreed to consider withdrawing troops from a pivotal pagoda situated on the only way leading to the Preah Vihear Temple and the areas around it to avoid military tension.

Thai foreign minister said that he needed to report it to the government for final decision and the Cambodian side said that the two countries could open a new meeting later.

Talks between Thailand's armed forces chief General Boonsrang Niumpradit and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Tea Banh ended one week ago without resolution. ASEAN intervention also failed the next day.

Over 1,000 soldiers have deployed near the temple since July 15in manifestation of either sides' claim of one piece of 4.6 square km land at the border area.

The International Court of Justice ruled in 1962 that the temple belongs to Cambodia, but surrounding land remains in dispute.

Mr. prime minister, why don't you set a deadline for the Thai government? If they unable to meet the deadline, then you can use military action, which means we'll fire the shot into their territory.

Come on, Mr. prime minister, be brave like you're doing to your poor people in Cambodia. Plus, what is it that you have to lose.

These soldiers are thankful for your $100 gift, and they're ready to return for your favor. So, give them order, and I'm certainly they will execute it.

Just do it!

There won't be any election in the next five years, because well before that, someone (inside of his elite circle) will kill Hun Sen already.

If Hun Sen gave order for his soldiers in Preah Vihear, they will execute it. Consequently, the Hun Sen's administration and his fortress will attacked severely.

once Thai government support Cambodia to register the Preah Temple at the UNESCO, but after the demonstration of PAD, Thai gov.
changed their stance to oppose Cambodia. this show Thai gov. listen to their people.

In this case, if opposition in Cambodia do demonstration to urge the governmet take the case to UNSC or ICJ , how would Cambodia government reply to the action ?

Most NGOs want Gov. to take the case to the UNSC.

you know, thailand for many years since the icj verdict of 1962 tried to block access way to preah vihear by claiming the access is in their territory which they unilaterally redrew the map against the treaty of 1907 and the icj verdict. and from this, they would brain-washed the media and young people who knew nothing about the history of cambodia and preah vihear to think that the only easy access to the temple is from thailand side. that is baloney or bullshit. the fact in law is that the treaty of 1907 and the icj verdict confirmed that the whole surrounding area belongs to cambodia, not thailand. this is why cambodia still have problem with thailand for their violation of the treaty of 1907 and the icj verdict. cambodia need to bring this issue to the UN council to discuss as thailand is obviously violated the international law because of their doing this to claim access or block access to the temple from the cambodian side. this is why the treaty of 1907 is so important to cambodia. that treaty was indeed binding and ratified into law since 1907 and for thailand to violate it is reflective in their recent illegal action to block unesco listing despite the icj verdict. so, the pattern is obvious and clear in plain sight.

Hun Sen, you are only brave with the innocent Khmer people. With foreigner, you failed to act accordingly. How is it that you allowed an intruder who came to your home and rape your wife by telling him, "I am just waiting for you to leave first". Do something idiot? You have the upper hand because the law is on your side. If you are too scare to shoot him, call the police, which in this case is the UN. Why prolong the process and let the thieve getting away. If you don't act now, when is the right time? Thai will not dare to do anything foolish, because they have much to loose. If UN is involved, Thai not only loosing the disputed land, but also the disputed sea as well. Act now and you will be Khmer Heroe!

True, how can someone entered your home and stealing, robbing and raping have to wait for the home owner to strike?

This is very obsurd. HUN SEN can only be strong to the innocent Khmer people.

This is very sad that we don't have a true leader.

He can strike and call a police about the home invasion.

Also if he takes this matter to UN we will surely win, cause we have a golden opportunity.

HUN SEN, if you can do this all Khmer people will respect you as king forever.

Khmer Pride,

"The problem comes from the same root, which is mapping based on unequal treatment by powerful countries in the past," he said (Thai Vice-Admiral Pratheep).

= There is no one on this planet Earth who has more irrational thinking and illogical reasoning than the Thai leaders! These Thai leaders like to twist Cambodian history to fit their need and their ego to show the world of how powerful and influential the Thai politic on Cambodia!

Now! I want to know. What is so unequal treatment about the Thai who doesn't want to be colonized by the European Powers? If the Thai were willing to submit to colonialism and maybe the Thai can get special treatment from the British or the French! But the problem is the Thai was never wanted to be colonized and now they complain about unequal treatments which help save them from colonialism!

So who can blame Cambodia for wanting to be French Protectorate which helps save Cambodia from Thai and Vietnamese aggression! For Cambodia being a French Protectorate, Cambodian people were never treated anything special more than the Vietnamese! Because the French allowed the Vietnamese to work as Cambodian government officials at every level in Cambodian government while Cambodian people were looking down by the French as being lazy, uneducated, and not hard working! So is this how the Thai people want to be treated under the French colonial master? Of course not! So what is the point for the Thai to complain about unequal treatment under the French?

Now that the Thai leaders are in the spot light on the issue of violation of Cambodian territory, The French map of Cambodia which recognized by International Community and United Nations will be used to verify every square inch of Cambodian territory on Thai side and the Vietnamese side to see if they both had violated Cambodian territory in anyway shape or form! Cambodian leaders can’t afford to have endless ongoing bilateral talk between the Thai and the Viet to solve Cambodian border conflict because bilateral talk is nothing more than a whisper which nobody can hear or understand including International Community or the United Nations!

I believe International Community and United Nations have a role to play in helping Cambodia in verifying the French International Map to end the Thai-Viet-Cambodian conflict! Otherwise the Thai and the Viet will insist on using their own map to violate Cambodian territory forever! At the end, I believe there won’t be peace and stability in the mainland Southeast Asia!

Now you know why even the Vietnamese government blocked Cambodian leaders from seeking help from United Nations to solve the Thai-Cambodia conflict because the Vietnamese government is also in violation of Cambodian territory too!

Most of the comments i saw were encouraging for war. Are these people insane? The problem need to be solved diplomatically.

Our Khmer people have had enough of bloody wars. Those who insisted for war are those who rest their ass at overseas and dont understand a shit about the pain and misery that Khmer people have experienced.

I suggest you stop barking!!!

If you have so much fear for war and why don't you go to live in Thailane and Vietname? Who is stopping you?

The real war in Cambodia right now is the traffic accident and AIDS that kill thousand and thousand of Cambodian people each year!

Please think a little harder my brother, no body wants war. We all want diplomacy, but not bilateral talk which is the beneficial to the Siam. Can you not see that Siam is trying to prolong the process so they can trick us into some kind of agreement again? We Khmer always received the short end of the stick everytime we made an agreement with our neighbor country. Logic tells us that if two people feud about their differences it is only fair to bring the third party or else the strongest one always win.

My brother, Khmer abroad love Khmer very much. The last thing we want to see is more blood shed in our homeland. For me, I miss my homeland and my people very much, most of the time my tears would drip when I think about sruk Khmer. It is unfortunated destiney that in this life time I was forced to be away from my belove homeland.

Let us all stay united or else our land is getting smaller and smaller.
