[Human Rights] Party Urges King's Help in Border Crisis

By Sok Khemara, VOA Khmer
Original report from Phnom Penh
24 July 2008

Human Rights Party President Kem Sokha has asked King Norodom Sihamoni to consider intervening in the ongoing border crisis at Preah Vihear temple.

"We believe that only Your Majesty can solve the issue, because the royal families of the two countries have a good relationship, and have no political interests or partisanship," Kem Sokha wrote in a letter to Sihamoni.

Kem Sokha sent the letter following failed bilateral negotiations Monday and an impending UN Security Council meeting over a situation Cambodia has called "an imminent state of war."

Royal spokesman Oum Daravuth declined to comment on the letter, but said "we all" should join the government to solve the issue of sovereignty, not political gain.

Kem Sokha indeed has potential. Let's hope he can score some good points in this election.

In my opinion, it would look bad on Khmer if the Khmer king would try to get this ongoing dispute resolved with Thai king. It would look like the Khmer king is imploring the Thai king for his immediate help. All Thais, including their king, know the reason why they send their army into our territory. Why then should the Khmer king try to call upon the Thai king to resolve the dispute? It makes no sense but shows weakness in Cambodia side.

Kem sokha is a jerk.

If this is the wish of the UN Cambodia will talk with the Thai.

Hun Sen you should reinforce our border with our troops.

Our August retired King can lead a crusade for Cambodia's territorial integrity.

No one in Cambodia, not even the present government, is better qualified and more skillful, and has more experience and a higher world standing for the recovery of of Cambodia's territory the Thais are now occupying than our August retired King. The Chinese was using Him very effectively for the Khmer Rouge to defeat the Americans and Lon Nol, and later on the Vietnamese.

Our Constitution says under its article 8 that the reigning King is the guarantor of our independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. We and the government should call on Him to discharge His constitutional duty and advise Him to seek help from our retired King.

The government should support the reigning King in inviting the retired King to be the reigning King's Special Delegate to lead the diplomatic offencive to get the Thais out of our territory.

Because of His qualities, personality, reputation, the respect from different leaders and other personalities around the world, our August retired King can galvanise support for our cause from around the world and from all our people. He can outwit the Thais and put pressure on them to leave our territory.

Whether one likes Him or not, one must think of the superior interests of our nation. At this particular juncture of our history, I strongly believe our retired King can serve these interests better and more effectively than the government and all of us.

You idiots Khmer leaders here still donot understand!!!!!!!! Think about this idiots? What is the number of troop from Thailand? Is it on rise or decrease? Are they launching attacks? Yes that's the possible answer. And now you idiots cox of the fear and your selfish councerns of losing vote bow your head and give another concession to Thai. You idiots realized that how weak and chicken and non-diplomatic you are when surrender yourself to the enemies all the time? How about if this talks fail again and you went to UN again for their intervention? How stupid and shameless you idiots are!!!!!! or you will concede land to Thai or let Thai share interests on your fucking soil and temple?????

I can smell abnormalities with the negotiation here.

Khmer will call any lose-interest of the temple or land in nigotiation by by these corrupted, power-addicted leaders as the act of TREASURY!!!!!

KHMER WAKE UP!!!!!! BEAT UP THESE BASTARD IF THEY EVER SELL OUR LAND OR TEMPLE TO FOREIGNER JUST FOR THEIR OWN POWER-SURVIVAL!!!!!!!

The Thai people revered His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej like God and the Khmer people also revered His Majesty Baromneath Norodom Sihamoni.

The royalty of Thailand and Cambodia help their subjects in the provinces throughout their respective country.

The Thai royals and the Khmer royals use the same "Rajasapt"
They speak the same language and mutually intelligible.

Her Royal Highness Somdej Phra Thep help build a school name Kampong Cheu Teal in Kampong Thom province to help strengthen ties between the two Kingdoms. And on His Majesty Bhumibol's 60th anniversary of his ascension to the throne last year, Somdej Phra Thep personally flew to Phnom Penh to invite His Majesty Sihamoni to attend the celebration.

Peace and regional stability is the sure way to progress and happiness.

Because Thai culture is so much similar to the Khmers, we are like brothers and sisters.

Cambodia and Thailand are the only two countries in the world that use the same numeral symbols.

Since His Majesty King Chulalongkorn signed a legitimate treaty with France in 1904-07, the boundary line should be left as is for the sake of regional peace.

Thailand's claim of 4.6 km2 beyond the agreed line to the Cambodia side should be countered with another 4.6 km2 to the Thailand side of Si Saket. With a combine total of 9 km2, we then can jointly list this area as a World Heritage Site and call it as Preah Vihear/Phra Viharn National Park.

Establishing this 9 km2 national park zone is to honour King Rama IX. Our wound of 1962 will become our harmonious fraternity of 2008!

The main argument all along was about joint management of the area, and we will jointly manage and reap the benefits for both Thailand and Cambodia.

Khmer and Thai Royal families related by Khmer Mon blood, and the Royal languages use daily life are the same, I hope the two old monarchs HM Norodom Sihanouk, and our current HM Norodom Sihamoni, and HM Bhumibol Aduljadeh can help us Siam and Thai to live in peace as now we are neighbors.

I don't want war between brothers, I have relatives in Surin and Si Saket and I have relatives in srok Khmer, albeit I am Kaun Khmer because I was born in Srok Khmer.

I agree that PM Hun Sen should build a strong army instead of just his body guards, the army could protect and defend the nation; and I agree that Thai government must respect the International Law, don't use Khmer Preah Vihear as a scapegoat for their internal political failure.
Now the whole world look at Thailand as someone who respects no law or barbarian.

Not all Thai people agree with the government of Thailand. Not all Thai people agree with the crazy extremist trouble makers of PAD either. This PAD is a group that created to eliminate freedom of speech, a dictator group who will lead Thailand to a downfall.

I compare PAD to a CPP gangs or Viet death squads who're roaming all over in Cambodia to just cause troubles in attempting to take Cambodia.

I think this standoff between Pm Samak and PM Hun Sen was a hoax. Samak fooled the PAD and the same as Hun Sen fooled the Khmer people.
