Nou Beng, the former vice-president of the National Assembly during the People’s Republic of Kampuchea (or PRK which was installed by the invading Vietnamese army), died on 03 July 2008 of disease. Mrs. Om Kanha, Nou Beng’s wife, indicated that her husband died in the morning on 03 July at the Russian Hospital, where he remained in the past few years. Om Kanha said that her husband died of high blood pressure, and he cannot move half of his body since 2002. She and her husband do not have a house to call their own and they stayed permanently at the hospital after their home at the Prek Ta Kong village, Chak Angre Leu commune, Meanchey district, was swindled by someone else. Nou Beng’s biography indicated that he was a member of the National Salvation Front of Cambodia (formed by Vietnamese invaders) which (allegedly) toppled the KR regime in 1979. Later on, he became the minister of health and social welfare of the PRK, between 1982 and 1992, he was a MP for Ratanakiri province and also the vice-president of the National Assembly.
