(BangkokPost.com) - The Constitution Court accepted Thursday a petition filed by 77 senators, who asked it to determine whether the joint communique on the Preah Vihear temple that was signed by Foreign Minister Noppadon Pattama violates the constitution.
On Tuesday, the senators sent their petition through Senate Speaker Prasopsub Boondej, asking the court to look into the legality of the joint declaration on July 18, which Mr Noppadon signed, declaring Thailand's support for Cambodia's application.
A similar, second petition submitted by the opposition through House Speaker Chai Chidchob was also accepted by the court, which effectively merged the two requests into a single case.
Doubts have been raised as to whether the declaration is considered an international treaty that affects the country's sovereignty, which requires parliamentary endorsement under Article 190 of the constitution.
The court called Mr Noppadon to testify on the matter at either 3pm Thursday or 9am Friday.
Meanwhile, Democrat party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva called on Mr Noppadon to stop thinking about his own face and concentrate more on maintaining the benefit of the country.

The one that can't be trusted is Ah Karmen in Cambodia who want the temple for themselves and leave us (Khmer in Issan province) in the cold.
Oh please, if you a real Khmer, no matter if you in Issan or in Krom, you would be proud that Cambodia stand on its feet and going to get what deserves to the Khmer nation from evil neibghbors that divides our nation and people.
Only a traitor would speak like you. Or maybe your just a Tai imposter acting to divide Khmer around the world!
Three word. FUCK OFF THIEVE!
the world diplomatic society don't work that way like the thai politics. between noppadon and abshit, the world will take the foreign minister more serious than an opposition leader like abshit for whatever noppadon signed already is the official between gov't of thailand and cambodia. that is how the world operate. this is exactly why all nations on the planet have prime minister or president, secratary of state and foreign minister, etc..., because that is legitimate gov't official not the so-called radical or extreme group of political parties who called themselves opposition or whatever. understand the big world around you is good. thank you and god bless cambodia.
Yeah, but it doesn't have cabinet approval.
At any rate, the temple belongs to Khmer, not French.
1:16am, of course preah vihear temple and more are always belongs to khmer people. that's why cambodia reserves the unilateral rights to list it for world heritage without the obnoxious and harrassment from thailand, period, end of story. icj rules supreme forever as this verdict is very specific and particular for the time it was decided, and 10 years icj lawful order for thailand to appeal with new evidence had long been expired now into the 46 anniversary already. end of story, law is law, thailand can not just decided all of a sudden out of the blue to do whatever it wanted like this. this is why even the world has international laws to prevent this kind of exact problem that thailand is doing with cambodia. trust me, without laws, both national and international, all hells will broke loose. thailand can not be allowed to disrespect the international laws and to have contempt of a the icj court of laws like this. enough said! god bless cambodia.
of course, preah vihear temple always belongs to khmer citizens. thailand don't have to remind cambodia about that! god bless cambodia.
Yep, preah viharn did belong to khmer ,khmer issan of course.Ah khmen in Cambodia are greedy. They charged KKK $20 just to visit ANGKOR.Don't let preah viharn become their.
2:33am, of course, now that thailand makes us hate them, cambodia should start charging siem citizen $50.00 each for visiting our khmer temples. you guys don't deserve free lunch. someone has to pay for the maintenance and services! get use to it. god bless cambodia.
Yeah, you do that and Phnom Penh will become "Little Bangkok" before you know it.
3:00am, hey, hey phnom penh is not for sale to siem thugs, only the tickets to our preah vihear are for sale to thai thugs because as long as they pay for the ticket they can visit preah vihear. if they keep on protesting, we'll have to raise their price to $100.00 per person.
Who said anything about buying Phnom Penh from the French people, 5:31?
