Samak: Hun Sen's decision to beef up troops has caused the situation to deteriorate

Thai premier warns Cambodia of deteriorating border situation

Bangkok - Thai Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej on Friday warned his Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen that the decision to beef up troops around a contested Hindu temple on their joint border has caused the already tense standoff to 'deteriorate.'

Both Thailand and Cambodia have this week been reinforcing troops in the vicinity of Preah Vihear temple, also called Phra Viharn in Thai, which sits on a cliff that defines the Thai-Cambodian border between Si Sa Khet and Phrea Vihear provinces in Thailand and Cambodia, respectively.

The temple was the cause of a border spat five decades ago that ended up at the International Court of Justice in The Hague in 1962. Cambodia won, but the row has been reignited by the World Heritage Committee's decision to list the temple as a UNESCO site earlier this month despite Thai objections.

Three Thais were briefly detained on Tuesday for crossing into a portion of the temple compound that is still subject to a border demarcation dispute. The three, part of an ultra nationalist Buddhist group, were released within hours but prompted Thailand to send in paramilitary troops to the contested area, where they have remained.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, who faces an election on July 27, has reportedly dispatched about 1,000 troops to the Cambodian side of the border.

In a letter to Hun Sen from the Thai premier passed to the Cambodian Ambassador to Thailand, Ung Sean, Friday, Samak reiterated Thailand's resolve to seek a 'just and peaceful solution to the situation,' said Thai Foreign Ministry spokesman Tharit Charungvat.

'Meanwhile, the deployment by Cambodia of more than 1,000 troops, in addition to around 200 troops stationed there earlier, has caused the situation to deteriorate,' Samak noted in his letter.

Thailand and Cambodia are scheduled to hold a special session of the Thai-Cambodian General Border Committee in Sa Kaeo Province on Monday to discuss the border dispute and 'prevent the escalation of the situation.'

Thailand claims that a 4.6-square-kilometre area around the temple is still disputed and since the dispute is undecided their troops are not technically in Cambodian territory.

Cambodia's efforts to list the temple compound, although excluding the disputed area, as a UNESCO World Heritage Site became politically charged last month when Samak's government first backed the proposal, then withdrew its support after intense public criticism.

Former Thai Foreign Minister Noppadon Patamma was forced to resign over the issue.

The Thai Foreign Ministry explained Thailand's stance on the border dispute to diplomats from the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN), of which both Thailand and Cambodia are members, in Bangkok on Friday.

Thailand successfully blocked Cambodia's efforts to list Preah Vihear at UNESCO last year and has issued two previous complaints concerning the still disputed temple compound area on previous occasions, said Tharit.

Have we briefed our ASEAN partners on
the disputed territory from our legal vantage?
we seem to be a step behind . I hear we are heading for the UN.
This should have been done right at the beginning.

How could hun sen and his government go to u.n and ask for help when he and his government don't like the u.n and many times lie to them. Also hun sen and his government did not want to talk to the u.n representative and try to push him out of the country. Hun Sen should learn that for the sake of u.n for him to be rich and powerful man now. He should learn from pol pot mistake. Pol pot won the war because he had support from the people. After the war ended and he fully in charged, he paid pack the people by killing them.

Whether the UN likes Hun Sen or not, cambodia ia a member of the UN.The Un enforces the decision of the international court of justice. It obliged to help member states.

That 2000 memorandum that Hun sen signed with the thais. What did he exactly sign. Why are the thais so sure now that its their land.

Hun Sen will have to answer that question.

Hun Sen can tell Samak, who talked about the disputed land, Khmers can tell him this:

Surin and Phnom Run temples, Khmers are considered a disputed land because there are Khmer Leu living on these places. So we can technically station troops there since we consider the disputed territory.

It is all started when the Thaicong government allowed their three undercover Thaicong civilian protesters to cross Cambodian border illegally and the three Thaicong civilians were detained by Cambodian authorities for breaking Cambodian law! The Thaicong government used the detention of the three Thaicong civilian protesters for breaking Cambodian law as an excuse to come into Cambodian territory to rescue them! The issue of Thaicong civilian protesters illegal crossing into Cambodia can be solved through diplomatic channel especially through the Thaicong embassy in Cambodia and why the fuck Thaicong military need to rescue Thaicong civilians who are break Cambodian law? Is this a fucken Thaicong hostage crisis on Cambodian soil? Of course not! So now as the Thaicong military personnel pour into Cambodian territory, the Thaicong government twisted the whole story 360 degree and now the whole story is about protecting Thaicong territory and sovereignty and it is no longer about rescuing the three Thaicong protesters who are breaking Cambodian law! The Thaicong government is blaming everything on Cambodia for violating Thaicong territory and Thaicong sovereignty! The Thaicong even blame Cambodian authorities for the troop build up! When did this happen about Cambodian military going to into Thailame to violate their territory and sovereignty? I want to know!

To make the matter worst, the stupid Cambodian authorities condoned the Thaicong aggression since day one by arguing for the Thaicong aggressor that the Thaicong aggrssor were using a different map which led to the confusion and that the local authorities can solve the matter themselves! So tell me what map does the stupid Cambodian authorities are using? Are they using the Thaicong map or International Map or the World Map? By saying the Thaicong were using a different map, the stupid Cambodian authorities had accepted military defeat because they allowed the Thaicong aggressor to use their map (not international map) to violate Cambodian territory and sovereignty at free will! And now the stupid Cambodian authorities are asking the Thaicong government to withdraw their troop from Cambodia? ahhahha It won’t be long the Thaicong military will use their Thaicong map to claim Angkor Wat and what can the stupid and incompetent Cambodian authorities do now? Oh well! The stupid Cambodian authorities can always say that is the confusion and the wrong map again! Ahhahahhahahhahahhah!

I never thought Cambodian authorities can be so stupid and incompetent! If anything needs to be done in solving the Thaicong civilian illegal border crossing and it would have been done on the very first day! It doesn't matter whether it is Thaicong civilians or Thaicong military personnel and they all must be stopped at the border crossing from entering Cambodia! And to allow the Thaicong military personnel to enter Cambodia in the hundred and heavily arm as if they are walking for a picnic and to have Cambodian soldiers sleep among as if they are brother and sister is unspeakable! It is a fucken joke to have stupid Cambodian authorities repeatedly warned Cambodian soldiers not to fire or start anything first unless the Thaicong fire on them first! As far as I am concerned the Thaicong military doesn't need to fire a single because they have successfully occupied Cambodian land and break Cambodian sovereignty already! Now it is too late for stupid Cambodian authorities to do anything and the Thaicong military is occupying Cambodian land and they are here to stay!

It is painful to be stupid and yes the Cambodian authorities are one motherfucker and they are feeling the pain right now because they can’t make the Thaicong government to withdraw their troop from Cambodia and all of them deserve to be executed at noon!

By the way, the Thaicong are creating the fucken problem in the first place and they are blaming the stupid Cambodian authorities for the problem! It is time to let the bullets fly and make the blood flow and I want to see death bodies because there is a price to be paid for violating Cambodian sovereignty!
