Following the circulation of an email on the eve of the listing of Preah Vihear temple on the World Heritage Site, calling for a boycott of Thai products, now a SMS (written in English) starts to appear on hand phones since the morning of Friday 11 July, indicating: “News: Please avoid eating all kinds of Thai fruits, 4 persons were discovered dead after eating Thai fruits. Please send this SMS to all your loved ones.”
The Choam Khsan district governor, located in Preah Vihear province, where the incident took place, said that he was alerted about this affair “by people from Phnom Penh” and he gives an account of the story: “Four children, one of whom died, were in fact victim of poisoning yesterday [Thursday 10 July], but it was after they ate candies bought in a shop in their village. The police will conduct an autopsy. The shop owner said that he bought them from another villager in the district…”
At the foothill of the Preah Vihear temple – the talk of the town in the past few weeks – villagers said that they are not that concerned. “Since 23 June, the door to Thailand was closed, no Thai goods are imported, and shop sellers must get their provisions from Cambodian villagers further away,” Mr. Heng, a border official, explained while indicating that he also received the mysterious SMS.
Moeung Sonn, president of the Khmer Civilization Foundation, who was acting as the champion defender of the listing of Preah Vihear temple, said that it could be either Cam Control, the government department in charge of controlling food products, which did a bad job, or a “foreigner” who tried to send this SMS to discredit Thai produces so that they can flood the Cambodian market with products from his country. Nevertheless, Moeung Sonn did not want to speculate the birthplace of this foreigner…

It is so so very sad for Khmer people, especially, younger kids who don't know anything about today world. i would like sent this broken heart to these young boys. May God Bless these boys and Khmer People live peaceful around Temple areas.
The speculation of wrong information causes very serious problem to our society. Like what happened in 1998 about poisonous in food, and in 2003 about Thai actress claim.
It would be better to investigate the case of death of the child in Preah Vihear thoroughly before drawing any conclusion.
Generally, Cambodian authority never expect the quality and expired date of products in market. And there are many case of importing bad quality products from Thailand and Vietnam every days.

Boycott Thai's product will be committing suicide with inflation. The best solution will be to return the stolen temple to Khmer people in Issan province, as simple as that. There will not be business as usual so long you clamp down on their temple and calling them Chinese, Thai, or Viet. No can do. Their only crime was being a citizen of Thailand, and that doesn't give Cambodia any right to abuse them.
The current Government must be fully responsible for the accident which caused the death of our beloved citizen. All government agencies must investigate this case without any pressure, but with transparency.
Hun Sen & his men are behind this conspiracy...

We knew that in 2003 that Thai actress did say that. I meet some Thais who said Angkor belong to them. That crazy film star is not the only case. The story connected to Preah Vihear. It was like the Thai protesting at the Border, demanding the return of the three provinces Siem ream Battambang, and Preah Vihear. If they claim these three provinces belong to them. Angkor, and Preah Vihear located in the two to them must be said belonging to Thais. So for sure that film star did said that.
You do not need to manipulate the situation, Mr. or Mrs Thais.
