SRP position on Thai invasion of Cambodia

19 July 2008

Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) Members of Parliament recognize the invasion of the Thai army near Preah Vihear temple as a violation of Cambodia's territorial rights and international law. According to the treaties signed in 1904 and 1907 between France and Siam (now Thailand) recognized by the Hague International Court on 15th of June 1962, the recent invasion of Preah Vihear violates this international agreement. SRP Members of Parliament request that the current government immediately file a complaint to United Nations Security Council such that the UN body will immediately uphold Cambodian sovereignty, a stipulation of the Paris Peace Agreements of 1991.

The proposal to designate only the temple of Preah Vihear with a new map and not its surrounding lands to the World Heritage List by the current government as requested by Thailand and a joint communiqué signed by Deputy Prime Minister Sok An and Thai Foreign Minister Noppadon Pattama on the 18th of June 2008 is a illegal document, which has not been approved by the Cambodian Parliament, is the main cause of the Thai army invasion on Cambodian territory. SRP Members of Parliament strongly request that Cambodia government repeal this document and demand that the government presents a strong position which refuses to negotiate with the Thai government as long as the Thai army remains on Cambodian territory. In addition, the government must request the withdrawal of the Cambodian ambassador from Thailand in display of our firm disapproval of the invasion.

Defending the country is the duty of the government, thus we must strengthen the armed forces into a national army that is capable and well-equipped with adequate weapons to withstand the invasion of neighboring countries. SRP Members of Parliament request that the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces be strengthened by maintaining decent salaries for soldiers and commanders, and by eliminating current misconduct where soldiers are only promoted to high ranks through means of nepotism and bribery. SRP Members of Parliament urge that the national army be structured in a way where soldiers are promoted because of merit and experience. This will ensure that the Cambodian army will fight bravely and effectively to defend its nation and provide security to the population.

SRP Members of Parliament also request that the indigenous Khmers, who live in former Cambodian provinces currently occupied by Thailand, such as Surin and Sisaket, to demand and to teach the Thai government, politicians and army to respect the Cambodian current territory and to know the facts of history if Thailand wishes to be respected and wanting to insure that the internal violence in her southern provinces will not spread to the northeastern provinces.

"DEJO" don't have any military training or tactic to win the war if it comes to it, but definitely "DEJO" DO KNOW HOW to run to for HELP from the the Panda and the Yellow star! Because DEJO is supported...I don't believe the Siamese wanted to risk it.

Shut the fuck up, Ah Stupid Republic Party (SRP). You are not going to drag Cambodia into war with Thailand as you did with Vietnam in the 70's. We and our Thai brothers will work thing out in a peaceful manner.

This is exactly why the Siamese modified every pieces of Khmer identify that the Siamese copy from the Languages to the traditionaal dances. The Siamese considered Khmers as savage & uncivilized. Keep on negotiating with your "F..." words.

yes, thailand is undeniably violated the 1904 - 1907 treaty, the icj verdict and of course, the newly listed world heritage site of preah vihear. thailand has to compensate cambodia for all the pain and suffering caused to cambodia by thailand's violation of the international law and the sovereignty of cambodia. cambodia will not let them get away with this so easily. hopefully, with the intervention by the UN will help to prevent this kind of violation by thailand again on cambodia in the future.

cambodia and the UN is not stupid like thailand seem to think we are. they must pay for this violation of the international treaty and contempt of court by thailand. thailand should be ashamed of this! they lost once already in 1962 and recently to unesco verdict, and they still have contempt of court and of the world body of organization like unesco, etc... what a shame for thailand! the world must tell thailand to respect the 1904 - 1907 treaty and the icj verdict. cambodia cannot accept anything less than the already lawful franco-siamese treaty of 1904 - 1907 and the icj verdict, period, case closed! it is not their territory in accordance to the 1904 - 1907 treaty already, not to mention the icj verdict also confirmed that as well. thailand can make illegal demand for cambodia to submit only the temple or whatever, the 1904 - 1907 treaty and the icj verdict still forever supersedes all others. trust me, if it weren't for the 1904 - 1907 franco-siamese treaty, france would have colonized thailand; plus, france would have helped cambodia to get back all of our old khmer provinces that siem occupied already to be returned to cambodia at that time. so, thailand should show appreciation to france for the 1904 - 1907 treaty to demarcate the present international boundary lines between cambodia and thailand. so, stop violating this treaty, thailand!!! you people lost the icj verdict already in 1962, so give it up already! thailand must respect the 1904 - 1907 treaty, period. god bless cambodia.

koh kud was also divided in half in accordance to the 1904 - 1907 treaty. and look now, thailand claim all of it from cambodia. that is not fair. remember siem stole a lot of khmer's land and only return a small part of it when france colonized cambodia. cambodia still remembered that thailand stole many khmer provinces from cambodia before france came to cambodia because ask help from france to get our land back, but siem only returned a small part and still kept a large area for themselves. how could cambodia forget?

6:48, violating 1904 and/or 1907 is not as bad as you violating all Japanese treaties up to the 1940's.

7:13am, is that why thailand lost the icj verdict in 1962 with your kind of argument? i wonder why they lost? i'm sure the UN don't buy your excuses either. stop violating the international law, your criminals!!!

plus, japan now wanted to be our friends, and i can tell you that cambodia loves japan now more than we love thailand. so there!!!! stop violating the international law, siem thugs!!! give it up already, you people cannot win with the law!!! is that why thailand wanted to use force to invade cambodia because they know well that they cannot win with the law? one has to wonder! god bless cambodia and all our beautiful khmer people.

7:39, get real. ICJ is corrupted in 1962. I am sure the truth will come out with a little investigation to put ICJ and Sihanouk on trial.

Anonymous said...

Ask the Siam government to send letter to the UN so they can put the ICJ on trial.

Excellent idea.

Anonymous said...

Don't worry, ICJ and Sihanouk will be on trial soon enough if the Monkey in cambodia doesn't let go itd grip on the temple and pulled out of Issan Province.
