Thai-Cambodian diplomacy 'has yet to be exhausted' [-Thailand starts its PR campaign ahead of the UNSC meeting]

Singapore - At least three of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council agrees it is premature at this time for the body to discuss the row between Thailand and Cambodia over Preah Vihear Temple, Deputy Prime Minister Sahas Banditkul said Wednesday.

Sahas, who led the Thai delegation to an Asean meeting, discussed the issue on Wednesday with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of the Asean Ministerial Meeting.

Sahas met and discussed issues with his Chinese counterpart, Yang Jiechi, on Tuesday after Phnom Penh asked the Security Council to convene a special session on the standoff.

"Three permanent members of the Security Council whom I have met with here said Cambodia had been in too much of a hurry in putting the issue before the UN. Thailand and Cambodia can resolve the problem bilaterally," Sahas told reporters.

Don Pramudwinai, Thailand's permanent representative to the UN, said the world body would include Cambodia's request in an emergency session today.

A formal discussion of the row may take place next week, he said.

"We expected this to happen, because it is in line with UN regulations. Now we are discussing the matter," Don said in a telephone call from New York.

The Security Council has 15 members. Its five permanent members are China, France, US, Russia and the UK. The other 10 are chosen on a rotational basis.

Vietnam and Indonesia are presently among the nonpermanent members.

Sahas also discussed the issue with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem, whose country currently chairs the Security Council, and Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda.

Both agreed the row should not be put to the Security Council as long as bilateral mechanisms were available for resolving it, he said.

"I gave all of the ministers I've met here the facts of the matter, and I did not blame Cambodia for its move," he said. "Due to time limitations, I also handed them fact sheets about the situation and our position on it."

In Bangkok, Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej said Thailand's diplomatic position would take a defensive stance until Cambodia finished its general election next Sunday.

"Let Cambodia carry on. We're not being harmed. I hope they'll calm down after the election. I will talk [to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen] later," he said.

No, The stupid man, Saha Banditkul is misunderstanding with this case. Tomorrow UNSC will take The Thai's incursion to discuss in New York. I do hope UNSC can presure to Thai to withdraw their soldier from Cambodia immediatelly and make apology for Cambodia.

At that time is the ashamed time for Thai country, Anyway i don't think Thai won't care with international because this country is a country dishoney in world.

Come on UN now the Siam try to paint them self as the victim of all this???

I think the one who lost it cool is the Siam government, that's the reason of the standoff.

The goal of the other country is to save the credibility of the ASEAN.
The goal of the Siam is take our territory, so they minimize the gravity of the situation.

Obviously the UN is not going to do anything.

The Hun Sen government should strenghten Cambodia-China relationship, and buy military hardware.

Obviously Cambodia has to clean the Siam mess by ourself.

It is also an opportunity for Hun Sen government to clean up the armies. They shouls care more about the country than about their own interests: stop all land grabbing, etc.

the UN council need to get involve because thailand violated the international law. that is why. before any bilateral talk or whatever can take place, thailand needs to respect the treaty of 1907 and the icj verdict. that is the bottomline. thailand can't just mix everything together like that. everything issue is separate. first, they meddle in the affairs of cambodia by blocking the listing of preah vihear for world heritage, when that failed, the send in their troops to incurse into cambodia's sovereigned territory by ignoring or disrespecting the treaty of 1907 and the icj verdict, etc... and now they want bilateral treaty with cambodia? how disgusting can they can. the damage has been done already. this is why it is so important for the UN council to get involve to scrutinize the thai's head to see what in the world are they thinking that they can just violate the international law as they please. i bet you, thailand is scare shitless when the UN council get involved because they violated the international law, and, of course, they are afraid of the repercussion from the UN council. i told you, cambodia will prevail when it comes to law. why should cambodia waste precious time and human resources for thailand stupid and failed foreign policy. it's their problem. so, thailand is to blame for any trouble with cambodia. god bless cambodia.

what is thailand afraid of, the UN council? one has to wonder!!! god bless cambodia.

If the people of thailan inteligent should understan, but maybe just 2 or 3 know, and other should go back to study again about history,

god bless Cambodia

I'll wait and see what solution UNSC will make....
It's pity to see Scam_bodia make such a move to the UNSC without considering bilateral talks, and other steps ones should take when there's a dispute between two countries.

It's like your kid has a fight with the neighbors' kid, and you are stupid enough to file your neighbors' kid to the police, only because you fool yourself that you're right...

And if UNSC decision isn't in Scam_bodia's favor, I hope you will admit that it's a result of your shameless acts and accept your failure obediently.

It is unheard of for any country on this planet Earth to have bilateral talk with the aggressor in hoping to find peaceful settlement! So tell all you UN stupid motherfucker, did Kuwaiti people give bilateral talk a chance in finding peaceful settlement with the Iraqi army? Of course not!

If the international community forces Cambodian leaders to have bilateral talk with the Thaicong aggressor then the International community is condoning and rewarding Thaicong aggression and make the door open wider for the Thaicong to commit future aggression on Cambodia!

The international community must not and can not accept any aggression whether it is big or small and international community must send a clear message to the Thaicong government to withdraw their troop from Cambodia before any peaceful bilateral talk can take place! The present of Thaicong military force on Cambodian soil is an act of defiant and the Thaicong government is violating international map, international law, and disrespect international community! For these reasons there is no point for Cambodian leaders to talk, to negotiate, and to discussion the naked Thaicong aggression on Cambodia any longer and it is a waste of time and time is what Cambodia doesn’t have!

Right now the Thaicong-Cambodian conflict is very small and manageable and the UN has a greater chance of success in solving it by acting now without delay! But once the bullets and the bombs start to fly and there is no point of return and the war can't be stop and that why Cambodian leaders still insist on third party (super powers, UN, and International community) intervention! Otherwise there is no reason for Cambodia to have bilateral talk because the Thaicong government doesn't even respect international map, international law and international community!

Cambodian leaders must draw a line on the sand and say no to Thaicong aggression!
NO TALK, NO DISCUSSION, AND NO NEGOTIATION AND NO TO NAKED AGGRESSION!

The thai is trying to paint a rosy picture and justify their invasion. Withrawl their troops out of Khmer before negotiation can take place. If they want to see people gets kill first and then have the UN convene on the matter? The longer this drag on, the thai thief will have accomplish their mission of annexing Khmer territory. This cannot allow to happen.

watch thailand will fail again as they did with their attempt to block the preah vihear listing. i wouldn't be surprise when the UN council won't agree with thailand for whatever excuses they tell them. the world has already seen the example thailand played with them on the preah vihear listing. so, what else is new? nothing! god bless cambodia.

12:45 AM....Scam_bodia has nothing to do with this problem. It does not even exist. So, your words are meaningless. If you meant to write Cambodia, you should be smart enough to spell it right.

cambodia and the UN Council don't play the thai joke, so you joke is not funny, thailand. must you forget that cambodia do have our own agenda as well. so, what is your point, thailand? more lame excuses? watch, when they fail to convince the UN council too, like they failed with unesco, they will be defeated and cambodia didn't have to do anything to win; we just use the already existed international law to win. again, when it comes to the court of law, cambodia will win. so, don't worry cambodia, just go on with our own agenda with the UN. god bless cambodia.

To 12:45 AM;
I think you are abit smart to consider this problem. Now you are comparing this problem to the kid. has ha...not the same man!!!! It is the nation and country like the mature people, not the kid, man!!! if 2 man conflict each other, how to deal their confliction? the solution is the both side have to find the tird party. This is a small case of social justice.

I hope you will learn more about human and society!!
