Thailand, Cambodia Increase Troops Along Border, AFP Reports

By Chen Shiyin

July 19 (Bloomberg) -- Thailand and Cambodia have added to their troops in a disputed border area between the two countries, Agence France-Presse reported, citing unidentified officials.

Thailand deployed 100 troops yesterday to join 400 soldiers stationed on the slope of a mountain leading to the ruins of the 11th century Preah Vihear temple, the report said. Cambodia had more than 1,000 soldiers in the area, with hundreds of anti-riot police arriving yesterday, the report said.

The situation in the disputed border area was ``stable'' today, AFP reported, citing the unidentified officials.

Thai Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej said the addition of Cambodian troops had caused the situation to ``deteriorate'' and called for a peaceful resolution to the dispute, the report said, citing a letter to Cambodian leader Hun Sen. Officials from the two Southeast Asian nations are planning to meet on July 21 to resolve the standoff, the report said.

If the Thai government have a tiny respect for the UN International Law this standoff would not have happens.

No they are more busy finding loop hole in the International Law, they don't even lift their little finger to act according to it.

What a superb behavior from a country member of the UN.

THAILAND IS ENTERING THE DARK AGE.
Thailand, the only country that had managed to avoid the colonization from the super power western colonist in the past and had maintained peace
within their country for centuries,is now heading into the dark age by provoking its neighbor,cambodia,militarily.There is a lot of consequences thailand will face if the fighting erupt at the preah vihear temple.These are some of the challenges that thailand will face if diplomacy can not solve the tension;
1-the war;thailand had the most advance weapon in every branch of its arm force in the region, especially when compare to cambodia. However;thailand has only know how to use these modern weapon s base strictly by the book but not in the real life.furthermore;these weapons will have the least effective to its enemies. If thailand depend on their superior air power, then let's look at the wars that had been fought in vietnam and korea by the US and its allies with the most superior air power and weapons. The US and its allies had totally failed to win the wars.Cambodia had very similar geographic as compare to vietnam and korea.Cambodia can put 80% of her armforce along thai-khmer border to defend her territory as it has no worry over vietnam or lao that has very good relationship at present time, unlike thailand need to worry over its southern part and the burmese.Cambodia has nothing much to lose in fighting another war,but thailand has a great risk of getting into the darkest age of its history.Cambodian people has had much experiences in living through the war time and know well how to survive, the thai don't.
2/international relation;the world had been well aware that preah vihear and its surrounding area belong to cambodia according to the verdict of icj in 1962 and the recent unesco approval, and due to that fact, the world will not support thailand action but condemn
3/post war;even if the war won't last long, cambodia and her people will remember the thai invasion into cambodia which will greatly effect the two ways trade and will effect thailand at most.Relationship between the two people can not be repaired for another centuries to come.
I hope we will not get to this point and urge the world to help solve this dispute.

No, Thailand doesn't provoke anyone. It just want the return of the temple and the lands that was stolen by the French in the early 1900's, since the French were defeated and are no longer here. What is the crime in that?

Let the world be witness, that the French was "defeated" and lost its hold on Indochina after WWII. Thailand became member of the U.N after WII and Cambodia receive its independence in 1953.

With that in mind, Cambodia in 1962 acted as a sovereign nation when it brought the greed of Thailand to international court in Hague. The world court render justice to Cambodia in that year. Thailand then had to withdraw its troops and the maps used by ICJ was used ever since by the world.

So, you are ignorant and in total darkness when you say why should we respect the French colonization? Cambodia is acting on World Authority on French Authority anymore.

You have no authority in legal on international law to claim Preah Vihear neither do you have any cultural links and heritage connecting you to our Khmer ancestor.

So to say the temple belongs to you, is the most ignorant and blinded by greed statement person can make. But a person without shame can say just about anything.

If international rule does not exist for you, as some my fellow Khmer suggest, then we can claim back our territory of Issan all the way to Bangkok too.

I don't understand somehow like you have access to western education can be so stupid.

You know, you're just like a robot. They're just pawns being play by a bigger chessmaster. They say scream you scream, heck they say jump you would do it to.

You're all just zombies. Have no brain of your own.

With the law on our hand we Cambodian will not be intimidated by your colonial imperialist attitudes anymore.

Well, there was no agreement to cede and part of Thailand to the World Authority, only to the French Colonial.

Why Thai people are so deeply ignorant?

In fact the Thai government behavior just show the world that nobody has authority on them. Is Thailand above all other UN member by not respecting the ICJ verdict in 1962?

The answer is yes. So if you don't respect the decision of the ICJ, then the Thai government can say anything the come to their mind, but if you are a UN member that uphold and respect it's decision that you should know the Thai troops on Cambodian territory is illegal and it's provocation.

So in time of peace you just break the law without any impunity, but in the time of need Thailand would not waste not time calling the UN for help.

This is really a UN model country.

Who the hell would want a corrupted UN model unless they are also corrupted, remember the "oil for food program"?
