Thailand's interest to sit at the Preah Vihear ICC is mainly to better protect its interest, not that of Preah Vihear

The International Coordinating Committee (ICC) to protect and develop Preah Vihear will cover only the temple's listed World Heritage property, not the area claimed by both Cambodia and Thailand, the Foreign Ministry said yesterday.

It is widely misunderstood among academics in Thailand that the ICC would be set up to oversee the 4.6 square kilometres of disputed area, officials at the ministry said.

Joining the ICC would not mean allowing foreigners to run Thai territory, they said. The World Heritage Committee asked Cambodia to convene an ICC to safeguard and develop of the "property" no later than next February, inviting Thailand and not more than seven other international partners into the body.

If Thailand could sit on the body, it would benefit by participating in administration of the Cambodian temple, said Pisanu Suvanajata, the ministry's deputy director of East Asian Affairs.

The ICC is a policy-maker for development of the Preah Vihear, he said.

"We [Thailand] would have the chance to voice our concerns and protect our interests if we have representatives on the body," said Pisanu, who attended the meeting of the World Heritage Committee in Quebec, Canada, earlier this week.

"I see no loss from sitting on the body but benefit for Thailand from knowing how they run the site if, in future, we propose our adjoining part as world heritage," he said.

Thailand's World Heritage Committee, chaired by Pongpol Adireksarn, will explore the advantages and disadvantages before making a final decision in coming months, he said.

That is nothing in comparison to Cambodia calling Khmer People in Issan Province "Chinese" just to steal their temple. If that is not low, immoral, and shamefull, I don't know what is.

If Khmer in Issan Province still exist, they must still proud of their original race, Khmer and do everything to protect their bloodline as Khmer. However if they even never think that they are Khmer (even their blood that keep them alive is Khmer blood) they should die with shame. If they are Khmer, they must protect what Khmer ancestors made under Khmer not a foreign invader' name. They deserve to have all Khmer temples when they are Khmer people both mentally and officially.

I hate the Thai of being so uneducated for not letting go that the Preah Vihear temple is belong to Khmer.

Get over it!!

I wish they don't have the Thai in the body of UN or UNESCO because like Sihanouk said, Thai already have alot of Khmer's temple in its country that we didn't even say anything. Do they really want to Khmer to start reclaim all those temples from them? We can do that.
But the past is the past. If we can do that we go around and start reclaiming all our temples in the former vast Khmer Empire in Thailand, Laos and Southern tip Vietnam also.

We have all evidence and proofs and I bet with the informaton nowaday the world will be on Khmer side.

Thailand needs respect the world court.

Stop dreaming, you ignorant idiot (10;50). The Thai did not objected to the temple belongs to Khmer people. It is just that it belongs to Khmer people in Issan Province because it located in Issan province for centuries.

No problem for ICC over Preah Vihear, but a Thai member that would be a problem.

Because the Thai member is there just to make trouble.

he he he! No matter how are you condemning Thais, at the end of the day they still be your neighbor and they will be there forever. The neighbor who used to give you the shelter during civil war, remember? Vietnamese always say that Khmere are the 29-days-people, now I realize.

You are stupid to make a dispute with Thais on this small piece of land while you leave the illegal influx of Vietnamese into your country. The beggars are all around and the poor become poorer because of selfish leader. What can you do for your country rather barking to your neighbor, guys and gals? I cannot believe that you still dream to take back Issan in the 2008. Where is the next, Kampuchea Krom? You are the victim of history.

Look! Your country can do just only the abused business like gambling, prostitute, human trafficking. All Abayamook items is very cheap in your home. Sadly, food, education, medical and some other necessity in Campuchea is bloody expensive. How can you develop your country?

So, stop barking and start to look at yourself as long as you are not better than Thais.

Wake up, look around and you will find the resources in your country is being stolen by Western not Thais!

Goodluck, the pity Khmer!
