THANKS GOD FOR THE LAND MINES !!!

Wednesday, July 16, 2008
Opinion by Rath Khemara

Even though I despise land mines, these devices appear to play a beautiful role when it comes to dealing with a segment of aggressive, ignorant, and arrogant Thai soldiers and civilians who knowingly trespass into Cambodian territory near Preah Vihear Temple. I am a compassionate person who respect and regret the loss of human lives and limbs to land mines, regardless of who they are. BUT, I have no sympathy with those arrogant Thais who stepped on land mines in their quest to intimidate and bully the passive Cambodians. I hope that there are more land mines left buried around Preah Vihear Temple and that more Thai trespassers will discover them the hard way. There should be no sympathy for aggressive behaviors. Also, there should be no sympathy for a stubborn donkey (see a Cambodian children book story below).

Passive Cambodian, my arse, the monkeys in Cambodia are heartless, greedy and cold blooded killer. They are a threat to the region, by stealing the passive Khmer's lands and temple in Issan province, not to mention the killing millions of people in the 70's.

The killing of millions of people in 70s were sponsored by the great and passive Thai nation. Learn the truth before you embarrassed yourself

thanks god for the land mines
Khmer families have suffered so much for the past years.

we khmers love the result of land mines, as it increases the populations of handicapped khmers every year.

these handicapped helps khmers in the world communities and are the source of international donation, which means cash for us, khmer politians

we don't mind seeing our dad or mom died because of the land mines.
my neighborhoods also lost their legs and eyes and hands.

we khmers have no sympathy with those khmers who stepped on land mines. they are idiots and lucky for them if the bomb went off and they died. i hope more land mines will be planted in the land of Cambodia, as we badly need it as our national entertainment.

so it would be absurd if anyone asks for sympathy for the thai who stepped on the land mines. our children also enjoy the land mines and happy to see other die from its effects.

khmer is a great race. we have killed each other long before anyone can imagine. so land mines are just like green fields for our children. their parents also support them to grow up with this cruelty installed on every khmer child's head.

it's our nature to born as a killer. so the world shouldn't expect us to have any sympathy for those thais or any others who unluckily step their feet on the land mines in Cambodia.

we may pretend sad in front of you. but inside every khmers' hearts, we are laughing at you. hahaha

THE REAL KHMERS!

YOU FOOL 12:55 AM
Khmers kill their own race more than anyone. Get Cambodia history class.

YEAH Kill the thai dogs . everyone of them. That way we can claim we committed genocide on the thais. Bigger than Hitler, Rwanda, armenia, darfur combined.

We dont mind making history again. world record for killing all thai dogs.

Death to thais. Death to the dogs.

Every single one of that fucking thieving race be wiped off the face of the earth.

I love how there is only one thai troll in here that posts the same comment on all the articles. Khmer in issan is khmer. They dont object to the actions of khmer in cambodia.

Khmer in Issan???

People in Srisaket province are supporting 3 Thais who crossed to the overlapping area. If Thai soldiers don't block Thai people for their safety, more Thai citizens will join those three.

Where is your Khmer in Issan?
Give me a break 1:27AM

There're only illegal Khmers born in Cambodia, stealing and selling cheap sex inside thai border, not the Khmer in Issan.

The land’s around Preah Vihear temple definitely is belonging to the Cambodia.
No one build the temple without lands around it, it does not make any sense.

Ah Kvack(1:27), since when did Khmer ever agreed with each other on anything? Or where did you ever see Khmer unity anywhere on this planet? In your fantasy?

Anonymous said...

What is great about khmer Issan? No language, no culture, and land? Even their names sound thais. The only good thing about them is that they admit that they are khmers (even if they don't speak and write khmer).

Anonymous said...

ICJ only awarded Khmers the PVH temple, NOT THE SURROUNDING AREA.
THAT's fact.

Do your research ALEX, why the verdict was like that. Don't be fooled by Khmers over here.

You idiot (2:07), when you are married to foreigners, your adapt name from the father side, but why should that be a crime. People are doing that all over Cambodia since day1. You got to be blind not to see this.

You idiot 2:13
In Japan and many countries, when you're married to foreigners, you don't have to adapt name from the father side.

Also, in Thailand, I've read about it.

Don't speak for the khmer issan. If the khmer issan object let them voice their opinion. You don't need to speak for them.

So, you admitted that the khmers in Issan region are not pure khmers. They are mixed with thais, loas, burmese, farangs, and so on. Therefore, they rights to claim the temple is even less appropriate.

Like 2:16 AM said, you don't have to carry father side name. The point in my post is that you guys have no language and culture. Can't speak and write khmer. I am in Canada and I can speak and write khmer even if my father is white and my mom is khmer. By the way, I carry mu mother last name.

Anonymous said...

Who said that you have to be pure Khmer to be Khmer. Just look at your King: He's gay infidel.

Anonymous said...

Last time someone talked about the thai king, the whole youtube was shutdown in thailand. So learn to respect others people's king. Khmers are not the one getting butt hurt when their king is moched or made fun of. Did anyone teach thais manner?

Anonymous said...

Well, this is a two ways street. When you respect Khmer in Issan province and get out of our town, in turn, we'll returned the same treatment. Otherwise no can do.

Please don't speak for the khmer in issan unless you are one. Khmer would never talk to their brothers and sister this way.

And in case you didn't know, preah vihear is already cambodian territory. So what is the problem? If you don't like it bring it to the world court again and bring up your claims. Khmers would be happy to take this issue up again.

If you, the owner of this webblog, say that Thai people, a dog as you called us, why,in the past, your people come to Thailand seeking a sanctuary from the chaos in your country?

Why????????????????
The truth about this acient building is not as you say at all.
Your country has it because of two corrupted leader, Thaksin and Hunsen. I think you know about this fact in your heart.

So stop lying.

stupid thai ^

Thailand did not want khmer refugees during khmer rouge era. They were forced by international community with promise of big money. Why you think khmer refugees never had thai citizenship. I am one of these people. I was born in the Sra Keo refugee camp, but I have cambodian citizenship. There are numerous accounts of thai brutalities in these camps.

Thaksin and Hun Sen has nothing to do with preah vihear it was the ICJ that award this temple to cambodia in 1962. So what is this truth you speak off?

I don't know whether you are the REAL KHMER as you claimed, or a Thai imposter. But from your sarcastic comment, I doubted that you are real Khmer. However, if you are Khmer, I would like to tell you that you are completely missing and misinterpreting my point in the article. Please read it slowly and don't let you passion overcomes your reason.
Thank you.

Landmines

Because of its suffering from landmines (thousands of Cambodian citizens, young and old, men and women, have lost their lives and limbs because of landmines), Cambdia was among the first few countries to call for a ban on landmines.

I represented Cambodia in a senior government officials' meeting in Geneva in 1995 to gather ideas to draft a international ban landmine treaty.

Cambodia was then among the first countries to sign this treaty when it was adopted. We would breach this treaty if the landmine that hurt that Thai national had been planted by our soldiers. Donor countries could suspend or cease their aid altogether to CMAC (Cambodian mine clearance organisation)for this breach.

NO MORE LANDMINES, PLEASE. THEY ARE A HORRIBLE WEAPON.

the landmine that hurts Thai solier has been planted by your soldiers for sure because it is new. i hope you can find the newspapers that published some parts of the landmines. they are not old at all.

if CMAC stops giving aids to Cambodia, i would call it a real KARMA.

Mr. 11:25 AM

I would appreciate it very much if you could scan and send newspaper reports on and pictures of that landmine to the e-mail address: mong.hay@gmail.com. It is OK if these reports are in Thai language. I have Thai colleagues to translate them.

If you wish to remain anonymous, please post the names and dates of publication of those newspapers in this column. I'll try to get them myself.

This is very serious. We need to expose it to the outside world.

CMAC is the acronym of the Cambodian Mine Action Center, a Cambodian government organisation in charge of clearing landmines. It is receiving aid from different countries, not giving to Cambodia.

Cambodia's Landmine Tragedy
Cambodia Has Almost 50,000 Amputees, Their Limbs Blown Off by Landmines

By Fabletoo, published Jan 29, 2008

Several times a year, I have to do what they call 'border runs' from Thailand into Cambodia. A border run means you take a van to the Thai-Cambodian border, get stamped out of Thailand, eat lunch in Cambodia then come back across the border and get stamped back into Thailand. This gives you permission to stay in Thailand for another 30 days. All the Thai-Cambodia borders are in seedy little towns and, what I always notice right away, are the number of beggars on the streets - almost all of whom have limbs missing. These men, women and children are victims of Cambodia's enormous landmine problem, a problem nobody seems to be able to solve.

The Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) states there may be as many as six million mines still laid in Cambodia, in random fields, small villages, even in streams and rivers. Innocent victims of these landmines arrive in Cambodian hospitals every year. Since the Khmer Rouge were rounded up and arrested, and Pol Pot died, there have been almost 50,000 victims of landmines. Cambodia now has 1 amputee for every 290 people in the country. This is one of the highest rates in the world.

The United States also contributed significantly to this problem, dropping sub munitions in aerial bombardments during the Cambodian conflict. Many of these sub munitions did not explode, and are today causing serious injuries and death.

Organizations like the Cambodian Mine Action Centre, the United Nations and Landmine Action work to either clear areas of landmines (a very dangerous job) or work to protect the victims of landmines. Many amputees in Cambodia are treated very badly by the local population. They are looked down upon as the 'lowest of the low' and often abused by their own people. Princess Diana worked with landmine organizations to try to bring to the forefront the plight of these people, but even she was subjected to abuse from the government of the UK. The United Kingdom, like many Western countries, has a vested interest in being allowed to continue to lay landmines. Princess Diana's call for a complete landmine ban infuriated MPs in the British Parliament.

THE TRUTH HURTS!
