Two Khmer NGO’s said that they will lead a peaceful march of 3,000 protesters to the Thai embassy to present petitions against the Thai opposition to the listing of the Preah Vihear temple in the World Heritage List.

Mr Rong Chhun, president of the Cambodian Independent Teachers Association and a representative from the Cambodian Monitoring Group, said that the newly redrawn-maps that were attached with the application to list the Preah Vihear temple will make Cambodia lose some of its territories.

Mr Rong Chhun said: “The documents from the 1962 decision of the International Court of Justice in The Hague should be enough to for the listing of the Preah Vihear temple in the World Heritage List. We do not need to ask for permission or recognition from the Thai side.”

In relation to this peaceful protest, a representative of the Cambodian Monitoring Group said that they had not estimated the numbers of participants or set the date and place for the protest yet. He said: “We will protest peacefully and we will monitor the case very closely. If the Thai side still harbour ambitions and still continue to violate Cambodia’s right, we will hold a large peaceful demonstration.”

In relation to this issue, another NGO called National Cultural Centre and Social Morality told the Rasmei Kampuchea newspaper that it also intends to organise a peaceful march with 3,000 participants to take petitions to the Thai embassy in Phnom Penh.

On the 2nd of July, the Thai government sent a letter to the Cambodian government informing it that Thailand will suspend its support for the listing of the Preah Vihear temple in the World Heritage List.

Currently, due to protests from the Thai people, Preah Vihear temple has been temporarily closed by the Cambodian government.

that's right, the icj verdict of 1962 is sufficient evidence to call off thailand's illegal meddling and stealing of cambodia land and temple. khmer people should not allow siem to do this to us as they lost the case since 1962 after the icj ruled in favor of cambodia to include even the disputed area of land around the vicinity of preah vihear. the icj used the 1904 and 1907 treat maps which was really specific and particular on the area of dispute. so, in actuality, thailand has nothing to do with this dispute anymore since the icj verdict in 1962. cambodia, please unite to make unesco aware of this icj verdict and use this icj verdict as our main weapon to tell thailand and unesco where we are standing now. and let see what unesco has to say about it. it unesco ignore our call, then we have to take thailand to icj again and let icj deal with them once and for all. god bless cambodia.

to 9:34 AM...What are you talking about? There ia no such thing called Khmer-Issan Embassy in the world, let alone in Cambodia. Your country does not exist. Are you dreaming? Are you quoting something from movies? or do you mean the Thai Embassy?

The two or three organisations that planned to hold the demonstration should not cancel their plan. They should go ahead and stage a peaceful demonstration. I think the reason they cancelled the demonstration is because the Hun Sen govt. did not give permission or threatened to crack down if they proceed with their plans.

Don't listen to Ah French Infidel (9:09). He's not Khmer, and the temple doesn't belong to him, but to Khmer People in Issan Province.

Just DNA test the Infidel King and the truth will speak for itself.

TO 7:30 and 7:31PM....I am a thai living in Bangkok. I know that khmer-Issan exists. Every thai/khmer knows that. My point is there is no such thing called Khmer-Issan Embassy in the world, particularly in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. I went to surin and others thai provinces that khmers minority lives. Hardly see any young people there speak Khmer. 99% of them speak thai, which is the official language of Thailand. This is the way it should be. You live in a country, you should speak the official language of the country. Khmers speak Khmer in Cambodia and Thais speak Thai in Thailand. You have no right to say Khmer-Issan Embassy, given that you guys are stateless living under our rule. It is officially the Thai Embassy. If you want to have your own embassy, please go back to Cambodia and then you can call Cambodia Embassy in Bangkok a Khmer Embassy.

Regarding the temple. Don't try to spread wrong message around we know that it belongs Cambodia. Period. We should not, I mean you should not, make this situation as a blow to our good relationships. Go and read more and you'll see that our growth has failed below that of Indonesia because our unstable political problems at home. Nowadays, everything is about business. Remember you die if you don't eat. So, a thai citizen you should make others people hate the thais more than they do now. We need them as much as they need us. This is how the world economy works. We all soon become a citizent of ASEAN Nation. Peace every one, and remember - Not all thais support the opposition party policy.

Correction...As a thai citizen you should NOT make other people hate the thais more than they do now....

People doesn't hate Thai because the are more Khmer than French.

Come to thing of it, the Khmer Empire should be ruled by the Thai King instead because he's a lot more Khmer than your French King.

12:50am, keep wishing; i'm sure khmer people will let your one-eyed king steal cambodia again. it was pure luck back in the dark ages when it was lawless, however in today's world, khmer people will grill your one eyed or fake eyed king for bbq. god bless cambodia.

4:37, I think your short-term memory is shot. Not long ago you said the same thing to Yuon, and what happened? You got fucked, didn't you?

12:32 AM, you said everybody knows it is a Khmer temple, if so why didn't the Thai leave Cambodia alone regarding Preah Vihear. It is a Cambodian temple and therefore Cambodia has every right to list it, no one, including Thailand, has any right to block the listing. One more thing, you said don't blow this thing out of a good relation. Well, the Thai opposition to the listing of Preah Vihear and the mass demonstration in Bangkok and in front of Preah Vihear has already shown that the Thai people are the ones who are causing frictions between the two countries. The Khmer living in the former Khmer provinces in Thailand like Sirun etc. have the right to speak and learn Khmer and this right was inscribed in the UN Charter. To deprive them of practising their culture, learning and speaking their language would be called "ethnic cleansing" and it is a crime under international laws.
