New York - The UN Security Council cancelled a meeting scheduled for Thursday on the dispute over the Thai-Cambodia border at the request of the Phnom Penh government while talks were being held by the two countries.

It was Cambodia that requested a debate by the 15-nation council. But the two countries' foreign ministers were trying to sort out their differences and Phnom Penh said the bilateral consultations had just started.

'We have cancelled the meeting pending the bilateral talks,' Vietnam's Ambassador Le Luong Minh told reporters. Vietnam is holding the rotating council presidency for July.

Council members said a meeting could still be held next week if needed.

Thailand and Cambodia were close to an armed conflict over a territorial dispute regarding the location of a Preah Vihear temple as both sides have stationed troops facing one another. But Asian nations have urged them to resolve the dispute without having to resort to the use of force.

there's a difference between the terms cancel and postpone. according to what i read, cambodia just postpones it to see how thailand work with the process as they said they want to exhaust all bilateral talks until a deadlock is reach. and, that is understandable in the court of law. i wish people read carefully before they accuse somebody of something.

i think as long as thailand still decided to disrespect the icj verdict and the ignore the treaty of 1907, cambodia is never going to agree to anything they say at the meetings to come.

this is why a third worldly experts' opinion, of course, the UN will use the international law to make their decision in all of this, is not only needed, but required as well. so, i can't wait to hear how thailand is going to explain to the UN council about their actions, all has to do with the preah vihear temple. i'm sure that will be an interesting ones for the UN council to hear. however, what i think will be even more interesting is how and what the UN council will say to thailand for that matter. god bless cambodia.

The thais know this, that is why they are using every delaying tactics possible.

Only a one eyed blind Hun Sen could fall into such a silly trap.

Two blind stupid PM led by the noe by fanatics.

Cambodia deserves a real leader in times of crisis.

Stupid Issan dude again. Well, at least you did your homework about the Issan region, which is in the north eastern of Thailand. Issan Province does not exist. Only Preah Vihear Province does. We Khmers don't want the dispute gets out hand either. So, the Thais solders should withdraw back the status quo before July 15. Of course, you guys will gain profits too from the listing of the temple. The secrete deal the Thailand and Cambodia did was to let Cambodia own the temple and the rich Thais can build hotels and Casinos to make money from tourists and gamblers. This is called joint development. You understand? You people living the region can come and visit as well. Don't worry, you have to pay the fee to get in.

From Khmer Issan living in Preah Vihear Province.
