UN to form ad hoc meeting to decide on Thailand and Cambodia

July 23rd, 2008

Thailand’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Don Pramudwinai spoke of the United Nations Security Council move to setup an ad hoc meeting on the subject of the Phear Vihear National Park conflict, saying that the action was prompted by Cambodia’s request for the UN to intervene in the matter by July 28th.

Tomorrow (July 24th) initial steps will be taken towards the emergency meeting as the Cambodian memo would have made its round amongst 15 key member nations. A conference within the Security Council will determine whether or not to fulfill Cambodia’s request. Thailand has also submitted a similar memo detailing that both nation’s are working on the issue and admitting that the problem has gone on for sometime.

Thailand’s UN Representative said that it would be up to the member nations of the UN to decide if the matter warrants intervention and commented that Thailand must await the decision and act accordingly. He continued to note that he personally does not want the meeting to occur as he view it detrimental to ASEAN fundamentals.

You should ask PAD or Samak government or Thai paople whether they want to live peacefully with Cambodia? I think they will say yes while they point the gun on Cambodian people.

We do not want war that why we take these issue to biliteral discussion (Cambodia-Thailand on 21 July 2008). After fail, we ask Asian to intervent butAsian reject it because this committee is now chaire by Thailand. Now the case is in UN hand and today (24 July) UN will hold a special meeting.

This is Cambodia style in diplomatic.

The thai is freak and I cant stop myself from expressing any word here. They are damnly unfair and thief and robber. While they dont want the UN to intervene for fear that it overlooks Asean role, they refused the good offices offered by Asean (really Sic). Bilateral negotiation does not work as they already occupy our land. It is clear from the government view that it deoes not work more. Therefore, it is necessary to have intervention from the Asean, but Asean works slowly. WIth this slow process, it is obligatory to have the UN Security Council intervened due to a aggression and invasion act of Thailand, which is a threat to international peace and in violation of the UN charter.

of course, the UN Council meeting will be detrimental to thailand's ambition to cambodia. that's the purpose of cambodia asking the UN Council to intervene, sooner rather than later. anybody can see that! god bless cambodia.
