A Cambodian man caught "loitering suspiciously" at a Buddhist pagoda was attacked by a monk with a machete, local media said.
Soy Narith, 22, was recovering from severe chop wounds to his leg and left side after Buddhist monk Em Eat, whose age was not supplied, allegedly set upon him on Monday with a long knife, the Khmer-language Koh Santepheap newspaper said.
The paper quoted police as saying that Eat suspected Narith was trying to steal temple property.
Buddhism preaches tolerance and non-violence but Eat reportedly told police it also taught that people should not steal.
Police were continuing the investigations as Narith accused Eat of being of no good character and that he should possibly change his vocation.

What can I say. This is Cambodia. It is certain becoming a wild, wild West.
A lot (not all) of Cambodian monks are very bad these days. They go to karaoke and watch porno clips on the internet. Most of them became monks for economic reasons. Their minds are quite dirty, they even rape occasionally.
I heard often too that Chirstian priests did the same things in western countries, including US.
Wild West? You people overseas are so oblivious. Back when during the mid to late 90's, Cambodia was a real wild west. I lived there so I know. Today's streets are cleared up pretty well. You people don't know nothing and always complain this and that and take things you see in Cambodia now for granted.
Have any of you experienced having hand grenade being tossed around in the restaurants that you eat just for fun? People carried guns and shot each other like no one's business. Anarchist is the word.
I guess it's hard for you overseas people to get it because you didn't live in Cambodia in the 90's to appreciate how far it has come.
What you expect from religion lead by ah communist Hochimonk Tep Vong!
Fuck ah Kwack Hun Xen and Ah Tep Vong!
Wow.... All,
It is not surprised me that monk or lay people always get into trouble. They both should be punished religiously and legally. Because both religion especially Buddhism and Society-laws prohibit from fighting and stealing etc. Of course, Mr. Narith entered and intended to steal the temple property first, he should be punished in different way. A monk should have another choice to punish him or it might be too much pressure on the temple ground caused by that guy. I don't know, I just think that monk should have found a better, smart and peaceful choice to transform the evil, otherwise, the monk himself is evil , too. I understand that we, human beings have very limited ability to change others!!
Anyway, please just learn that both sides have their own problems. So, sympathy should be shared!!
Thanks
