Homicide detectives are probing the suspicious death of a Cambodian woman whose body was found yesterday in an apartment suite downtown.
A relative of the deceased 40-year-old woman called police asking them to check on her welfare at about 5 p.m., Det. Bill Clark said this morning outside the building.
When police got to The Kent apartment building at 10955 106 St. they found a “man who was acting a little delusional.”
He was taken into custody and police found the dead woman in the bedroom.
The man, who is in his late 30s or early 40s, wasn’t acting rationally when police arrested him.
“We’re not doctors by any means, but he didn’t appear to be in the proper state of mind,” Clark said.
“At this time we do not know the cause of death,” he added.
“Homicide detectives are treating it as suspicious. Until we know the cause of death we won’t be able to say if it’s a homicide or not.”
The husband remained in police custody as investigators attempted to interview him.
“Of course we’re having some language problems that we’re dealing with too.”
Police were desperately searching for a translator last night.
“We are checking with the RCMP and other agencies right now to see what we can find,” Clark said.
Until police know more about how the woman died, investigators are conducting a basic investigation.
For several hours, the forensic unit gathered evidence from the suite where the grisly find was made.
Several neighbours were interviewed by police last night.
Clark didn’t say what they’ve found out from the neighbours, but confirmed the man and the woman lived together in the suite and that they were husband and wife.
It wasn't immediately known how long the woman had been dead.
