The reaction in regard to this demand was strong and very negative, even hostile.
A senior Prince said: “to let oneself be fed by the People is to make them even poorer and to “bleed” them.”
Another senior Prince said: “I want to become a common man and get rid of my royal blood which still flow in my veins –sic!–”. And (he said) this to be free to remain politician.
A few years passed.
And now (in August 2008), what do we see?
A senior Princess and her darling husband are in disgrace and dragged down to the mud.
A senior Prince is condemned to jail sentence, and to avoid this jail (sentence), he is forced to live in (not golden) exile, overseas of course.
And the misfortune and humiliations of the Khmer Princes and Princesses who are fanatical about politics are far from being over.

His Majesty's advise should be taken seriously. There are plently of humanitarian roles that those princes and princess can do and why not? there should be a new system that non-royalty and royalty can co-exist peacefully. Everyone know, regardless of who born royalty or not, you still be human being. That's why now a day, you don't consider Prince or Princess unless you act or behave like one and that doesn't mean everything must hand to you in gold plate. Do some thing that would result in a gold plate which will be then handed back to you with honor & respect that what we mean. So behave everyone. Royalty is included.
Like father like son they all are moral-less and dis respectable monarchy shame on you! You made them!
Look whoever that kills his own brother will get rich.

i don't think it is the matter of royal family in politics, but it is the matter of how certain royal individual is not good in politics that have always cause problems in cambodia. i'm sure khmer people love their monarch who they see as a good leader that bring about many reforms, many new idea e and innovation etc to cambodia. it i bad ignorant royal individual that cambodia do not need. if a royal person can bring about many good changes in order to better cambodia, i'm sure all khmer people will favor him or her, but so far, some royal individual are just destructive to cambodia and did nothing to better improve or help cambodia, instead, just fighting amongst themselves for the throne, and the khmer people are the one to suffer from this political infighting culture that seem to go on and on in cambodia. look cambodia is not so much about royalty anymore, especially after the pain and suffering that the KR did to cambodia. it would take a miracle if a royal individual can make good changes to cambodia. but so far none have done so. what cambodia need is reforms and development to make the khmer people's lives easier and to make cambodia prosperous and developped in a modern nation like many countries in the world. and if royal person do not show this kind of ability to lead, how can the people look up to them for anything to do with nation building?
