Economy on Thai-Cambodian border heavily affected

MCOT (Thailand)

Thai locals near the Preah Vihear area are facing a serious economic problem, and they hope the new prime minister will solve the dispute along the border so they can enjoy better lives. Let’s hear some locals’ voice their opinions to the Prime Minister in this report from the Thai News Agency.

It has been two months after the anti-government dhamma group claimed ownership of Preah Vihear, causing Cambodia to close the ancient Khmer temple on July 16th.

Locals of Kantharalak district in Si Sa Ket province have been severely affected by the Thai-Cambodian border dispute. Their business and tourism income have fallen to almost zero.

Not only does poverty menace the locals, the Cambodian Civil War also haunts them, as a Khmer gunshot explosion once fell on Thai territory, injuring many locals in the arms and legs.

Kantharalak district chief shared with us how one of his dwellers felt.

Prasert Aram-sriworapong, Kantharalak district chief said "Mr. Aran, a local resident, feels that after the incident, he must be the one who faces this karma, for he lives in the area and has nowhere else to move to."

Due to the poor quality of life and feelings of the area being unsafe to live, the locals of Kantharalak district want their new government to speed up negotiations in the Thai-Cambodian border problem. Although the problem remains unresolved, they want commerce and tourism to be boosted as it was in the past.

Noi Tongpanya, a local trader "I want Preah Vihear to be reopened because now we have no income. If the ancient temple is closed, everything goes quiet."

The locals’ hope now depends on the Somchai Wongsawat administration. They want the new prime minister to visit the area so he can acknowledge the real problem.

It is not the Thai people who are the problem but it is the arrogant of the Thai leaders who have caused so much heartache and headache in Cambodia-Thai border conflict! The Thai people didn't gain anything out off this Cambodia-Thai border conflict!

Thai leaders have a choice to make Thailand to be a good neighbor or a piece of shit arrogant neighbor! The Thailand will stand to loose more if the Thai leaders continue their evil way by invading Cambodian sovereignty!

Thais Cut Their OWN ECONOMY BLOOD VEIN.

Thai leaders and some Thai people have cut one of the main blood veins to their economy in exchange for their own political ambitions and interest.

Actually Cambodia has been the blood for Thailand's Healthy economy ever since 1979. Thai People at the border enjoyed being well-off nearly 3 decades by doing cross-border business, trading and exchanging their products with Cambodia.

Supplying of products from Thailand is now not important as Cambodian people have and will have substitute products from Vietnam, Malaysia, SKorea with reasonable price. And Cambodia can produce some for their own demand.

Cambodians'boycotting of Thai products is good as this is a free market tendency.

Thai don't care about the Khmer or other minorities on their eastern side. These group that has been causing the problem, the PAD POOD PIE PUM POM whatever, they say the eastern people are naive country folks who are ruining their "democracy" and election process.

Seem up to now, Thailand has really not given any economic growth and stability to these people accept to rely on Cambodian side of tourism and trade.

Cambodia needs to be more independent of the two neighbors products, we can make these products ourselves. We don't need them.

Anti-Thai sentiment brought 50 surprising seats to CPP in 2008. But CPP will lost 55 seats in 2013 in return when 99 years Koh Kong Development plan by Thaksin start.

Thaksin wants to have his name in history by taking Koh Kong. He doesn't care about money anymore.
