Hun Sen re-elected as PM - SRP & HRP boycotted the vote

Cambodian PM re-elected

Cambodia’s parliament re-elected Hun Sen as prime minister, extending his 23-year grip on power, at a session boycotted by parties disputing the results of the July general election.

Only 94 of the 123 elected members of parliament showed up, and unanimously raised their hands to approve the nomination of the parliament’s president and the new government.

Hun Sen promised before the session his government would use its new five-year term to "accelerate development and push for deep and wide reforms" of the southeast Asian nation.

His Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) took 90 seats in the July 27 election, while the main opposition Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) received 26 seats.

The royalist parties, Funcinpec and the Norodom Ranariddh Party, picked up two seats each, and the Human Rights Party (HRP) three seats.

SRP and HRP lawmakers did not attended today’s session and have claimed widespread irregularities in the July poll.

The opposition leaders could not be immediately reached for comment.

The CPP’s overwhelming majority in parliament means this year is the first time since 1993, the country has not been left in political deadlock after an election.

The previous general election, in July 2003, led to a year of stalemate as parties wrangled over forming a coalition government.

Hun Sen has a reputation for trampling on human rights to secure power, but a booming economy has bolstered his standing in a country still struggling to lift itself from the ranks of the world’s poorest.

Who needs troublemakers?

Kem Sokha was secretly told by PM Hun Sen not to attend the ceremony in an effort to foster a mistrust, which will delude and deceive the SRP party; also, it will eventually split them (in favor of the ruling party). The strategy was formulated and devised by PM Hun Sen's advisors.

No, it is the dog (Ghai) who told Kem Sokha not to attend the ceremony to forge a mistrust between the parties. Keep in mind that they both have a lot in common.

Yes, indeed, beyond the protests of injustice made by opposition parties and numerous Cambodians national and overseas, it is clear now that the CPP will be the master of our impoverished country for another 5 years after winning an election in a very controversial way. In reality, the tactic of ‘divide to reign’ has successfully brought the ruling CPP to stick with power and weakened enormously the already disorganised opposition parties. Thus, the result of 27th July election is clearly the fruit of the very well planned and genial strategy of the Ruling party who learnt from the past election how to manipulate and divert attention of international community with a façade of democracy and the so-called ‘two digits’ growth. In any case, with a unique party that ruled out the country for almost 3 decades, International Community and especially Cambodian people should not raise too high expectation for the Ruling party to combat efficiently against the crucial issues such as corruption, land grabbing, nepotism, rule of law, injustice, social and moral value decline, extreme poverty (34%, even behind Lao PDR, Myanmar), the big gap between rich and poor….

A 'used-to' Cambodian history....

I believe you are an SRP supporter, not "CPP official". No CPP official wastes time on this KI Media crap. You just try to defend SRP for betraying Kem Sokha and the people to attend the NA meeting. The public sees clearly who is a better man, it's clear that Rainsy is not a man of his words, he has no integrity.

By the way, it was Rainsy and Eng Chhay Eang who went to Kith Meng's house and Kith Meng gave them money and demanded that SRP join the NA meeting on the 24th. SRP has been taking money from Kith Meng, so he has to listen to Kith Meng's demand.

Get your facts straight.

Sam Rainsy has alway negotiated with CPP through the backdoor. You idiotic supporters of SRP do not know anything. SRP has taken a lot of money from Kith Meng and Eng Chhay Eang is the person to mediate between CPP and SRP all these times. That's why Rainsy can never disagree with Eng Chhay Eang because he brings money to SRP. YOu stupid supporters living in abroad means nothing to Rainsy or SRP, he only listens to Eng Chhay Eang.

Get your facts straight.

How and what so ever that the CPP, hun sen have achieved. Doesn't matter. The matter and facts are that are the curruptions, poverty, human trafficing, and injustice is due totally upon idiots members of the CPP.

Any true leader should bring unity, justice, peace. The CPP can't never claim any of that. For they kill, steal, manipulated the truth to false. From false to truth. From white to black, black to white.

Suffering of khmer will continue, Lack of respect for khmer will also continue from foreigner. Will the CPP care?
