TRAT : A border village in Cambodia's Koh Kong province has become economically self-reliant after Thai authorities introduced the sufficiency economy philosophy to its community.

Koh Kong governor Yuth Puthong and Trat deputy governor Somsak Yonokphan on Thursday jointly presided over a ceremony to launch the self-sufficient village at Bang Khayak in Monthon Sima district in Koh Kong.

Ban Khayak was chosen under a pilot project to make a village self-reliant. The project, carried out by the Foreign Ministry and the Community Development Department last year, introduced His Majesty the King's concept of the sufficiency economy.

The project provided occupational training, showed residents how to make development plans, urged local people to cut spending and showed them how to increase their incomes, said a source involved in the project.

Village head Seng Sinard said that before the concept was introduced, residents had illegally encroached on mangrove forests, causing environmental problems.

Many residents had faced financial problems as natural resources depleted.

Koh Kong is the Cambodian border province across from Khlong Yai district in Trat.

Since Thai sent their troops to Khmer soil, and continueing doing so currently, anything has to do with Thai is suspicious. It is benefecial to both to Thai and Khmer to improve relationship due to cultural closeness, more so benefit to Thai, however it is not perceieve sincerely unless all Thai troops move out from Khmer land, and shooting innocent imidiately stop at this minute. Unarm civilian just past away, murdered by Thai Black clad, and the innocent victim crime he commited was looking searching the forest to make a living.

2:13 PM, I entirely agree with you. Just adding a bit from my point of view. The best thing we can do, I repeat again and again, Khmers have to be in UNITY, we've got to help each others, like each others, respect each others. Stop barking unconstructively. No matter khmers abroad or khmers knong srok, we have to defend this small of land we have got left. When we fought each others, nothing gained, but we lost nearly all what our ancestors left for us, to the neighbors. No one helps us, till we help ourselves first, see how the French who supposed to be our protectorate, gave and chopped off our big piece of land given to our neighbors, as because of what? We were not strong, just fought for power, "this is mine, mine, mine..." and this was the reason why we have left with this small piece of home and good that the stoneage angkor and other monuments remain still with us to remind us we were one of civilized nations. Time to wake up, men! All political parties have to work in harnomy for the sake of helping all Cambodians to improve their living conditions, to defend our country, though we are developping our country slowly, it does not look very bad. Don't let our neighbor encroach again and again without any respect to our sovereingty like this. I am so sick to see them so greedy, they have no shame at all. Anything, they do at the border, we have to watch out, a bit suspicious helping a village to be self-reliant, what next? giving identity to.... I doubt. I am really optimistic that the government born from the last election will do their utmost to serve their term and listen carefully to criticism and do what they promise to khmer people. For the opposition parties, whatever seats you got in the Parliament, do your work to represent people who voted for you. Thanks to all khmers who work to make the country a pleasant place to live like in the previous empire we had. We are in that path to make a peaceful tiny empire, let's continue!

"His Majesty the King's concept of the sufficiency economy."

It is so sad that many of Cambodian villages and towns continue to be isolated from each other through the lack of roads, transportations, and the lack of schools, and people to people contact through networking!

The art of living base on self-reliant is a common knowledge known by the world over! The fact that some of Cambodian people who are living along Cambodia-Thailand border remain dumb to this day is because nobody especially the lazy stupid Cambodian government fail show them or fail to teach them how to live in such a way not to affect mother nature!

This is the legacy of Hun Xen leadership which is to destroy Cambodian people!

Do Cambodian leaders always look to the Thai King for leadership to get anything done to help dirt poor Cambodian people? It is so fucken sad that in the modern world and Cambodian leaders have become the subject of the Thai King and this is what can happen when Cambodian leaders refuse to respect the Cambodian King!
