Keat Chhon, the minister of Economy, obtained from the distributors a lowering of the retail price of gasoline.

To save money, it is better off to wait until Monday morning to fill in your tank. By then, the current retail price of gasoline will drop from 5,000 riels ($1.25) to 4,900 riels ($1.225), this starting from next week.

In the morning of Friday 19 September, Keat Chhon, the minister of Economy and Finance, was able to request this price drop from the distributors during a meeting at his ministry. The roundtable meeting took place only four days after Prime minister Hun Sen called for a push in the lowering of fuel price which started in the last few weeks.

“Our efforts to lower the price of gasoline was not done to attract popularity, but to better control inflation,” Keat Chhon explained while indicating that, since the beginning of the year, the State lost an earning of $263 million from imported gasoline tax in order to rein in the increase of gasoline price.

During the first six months of the year, fuel consumption in Cambodia has increased by 24%.

Still oil companies said that the tax on oil is 130% ($350 of tax per ton).

How can the price could be lower?
If they collect more on other sources, we would not have suffered like today. Some items has been doubled or nearly 100% increased already while salary was almost the same.

Hun Sen should thank western people who care so much about human rights and the Khmer Rouge issues.

Khmer Rouge documentaries raised by the third party prove to be an even more effective tool to support CPP propaganda since 1979.

The West doesn't like to support anyone who rule for 29 years, but their coverage on Khmer Rouge issues give Hun Sen for at least another ten years to attract new voters. Before, only my grandparents and parents are CPP supporters. Now, my young brothers and sisters also thank CPP.

Khmer Rouge coverage show Cambodians that at least we are better than the Khmer Rouge and CPP is their god who saved them, which reinforce the 1st out of 8 CPP poster.

Before, Cambodians were not interested in Khmer Rouge. Even the most famous and successful movie maker E Vong Hem lost $30,000 for Khmer Rouge film in 2004.
