A Cambodian court has sentenced a Taiwanese man to 22 years in jail for trying to smuggle heroin out of the country.
Judge Chhay Kong at Phnom Penh Municipal Court says he sentenced Liao Ichun after finding him guilty of trying to smuggle 240 grams of the drug into Taiwan.
A number of Taiwanese nationals have been detained and jailed for trying to smuggle heroin through the airport in the Cambodian capital over the past year.
Although drug arrests have increased, Cambodia is becoming an increasingly popular trafficking point for methamphetamine and heroin, particularly since Thailand toughened its stance on illegal drugs in 2002.

Good job. This demonstrates the marvelous ability of the Cambodian police and custom officers under the leadership of Hun Sen. We are making progress on every front, and we are making headways in many areas. Of course, this is the merits of the political stability and the genius-ness of Hun Sen. Had there been no Hun Sen, and if Scam Rainxy and Kam Sucka were elected PM, today Khmer would suffer much more than we have already suffered. These two scumbags are only in Cambodia to embezzle as much money as possible so that they can go back to France to scratch their asses. They don't care whatsoever about Khmer and its people, and they only know how to ban foreigns aids to poor people, but not to protect Khmer interests. During the Thai-border crisis, they are hiding in the bunker shaking from fears.
