Absent from the opening ceremony for the National Assembly on 24 September, in order to protest the 27 July election results, the three HRP MPs will finally be sworn in on Thursday 09 October. The three MPs are: Yem Ponhiarith, MP from Prey Veng, Kem Sokha, MP from Kampong Cham, and Ou Chanrith, MP from Kandal province.
The ceremony will be held at the Royal Palace along with the presence of 17 new ruling CPP MPs. This ceremony will also mark the official position for the new CPP MPs who are replacing other CPP MPs who have resigned.
“We received today the invitation from the National Assembly president. We sent in our request [to be sworn in] to the [NA] secretary-general on Friday 26 September,” Yem Ponhiarith explained to Ka-set. “In the future, we will continue to cooperate with the Sam Rainsy opposition party in order to amend the NA internal rule, and in particular for the distribution of speech time between all the MPs at the NA.”
