New York - The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) wanted to see resumption of normalcy in Thailand ahead of Asean Summit scheduled in December in Bangkok, Foreign Minister Sompong Amornwiwat said Tuesday.

Asean foreign ministers asked about latest development of the political turmoil in Thailand in an informal Asean meeting conducted on the sideline of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The meeting's agenda included the preparation of the Asean summit due in the middle of December.

Sompong said no binding commitment was made to his Asean counterparts.

"Some Asean ministers asked about the protesters in the government house while many of them like to see resumption of normalcy in Thailand," Sompong told reporters.

"I told them that we want reconciliation and we will do it in Thai style. They understand that the normal life in Thailand is going on as usual and the government has already lifted the state of emergency," Sompong said.

Thailand would inform the group later about its policy on Asean budget after the government announced the policies, he said.

The meeting mostly discuss on the preparation of Asean summit and the Asean-UN summit of which Secretary General Ban Kimoon would attend in December.
