Cambodia supports statements from UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon this week urging Cambodia and Thailand to solve their border disputes bilaterally, and not through an international court or the Security Council, a government spokesman said Tuesday.
The International Court of Justice should only be called on if the military standoff cannot be solved bilaterally, the spokesman, Phay Siphan, said, responding to a Thai media report that Ban had urged bilateral discussion.
The Court could be one avenue “if bilateral talks can’t reach the goals and can’t end Thai encroachment,” Phay Siphan said, adding that the “complexity” of the political situation in Thailand has made it difficult.
Cambodia’s position on bilateral talks has been criticized by international groups who are anxious to see the situation resolved multilaterally.
Ir Channa, of the Watchdog Council, said he supported Ban’s position that Cambodia and Thailand avoid war but he urged a solution through the international court.
Three rounds of bilateral talks have failed to bring a solution to a build-up of troops on the border that began July 15, near Preah Vihear temple, but domestic protests against the ruling party in Thailand have led to the resignation of two foreign ministers and a prime minister.
Thailand's new prime minister, Somchai Wongsawat, is scheduled to visit Phnom Penh Oct. 13.

bilateral talks with no progress.
STOP TALKING CRAB, BASTARD!
Political uncertainty in Thailand is none of your Business. Those in the UN do not want the issue to be brought up to them because this is their work and they do not want to be busy. So bring the issue to them to give them some work otherwise they will be forever sitting their big asses on their fucking nice chair/nice office/nice car.
Please be true to your own nation and stop making all these fucking nonsense excuses.
I've been hearing the same excuses for more than 2 months.
Do something! to protect my mother land or you all will die of lightning!
From an angry Cambodian citizen
Ban Ki-moon seems say nothing! That is what we are pursuing about.
Thai tried to say something different from what they have agreed such as withdrawing troop to change troop and trying to delay on bilateral talk because of fucking political issue at their home.
How long we gonna wait? What goals we are pursuing about? We want Thai withdraw back his troop but this will never happen without raise our issue to settle at UN and/or IC. I knew gov't is doing something but time consuming will jeopadize our people living condition at border.
Hu Xen! This issue is the first priority thing that you must do at earliest time at your new mandate! Make it happen!
Keep boycotting the siem products and the yuon also.
Please don't listen to Ah Fagot-Oversea who claimed to be educated and can't even fill out job application for themselves.
Send Ban Ki Moon to the moon damn it.........ah kvack you are brainless.....you are vn's slave from the beginning.....you are slave slave and slave don't make the khmer people slave like you.....you bloody incompetent slave....
"Cambodia supports statements from UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon."
= It is Hun Xen who supports Ban Ki-moon not Cambodia! Why would Ban Ki-moon want Hun Xen to keep talking to the invader of Cambodian sovereignty? Is this the new UN appeasement policy adopted by Ban Ki-moon? Did appeasement policy help stop Hitler for taking over the Rhineland and eventually the whole Europe? Of course not! Did appeasement policy help stop Japan from invading Manchuria, a Chinese province? Of course not! Since world war one, the whole world knew that appeasement policy doesn’t work and it only encourage the aggressor to break international law and order!
This is a failure of collective security by the United Nations led Ban Ki-moon! What Ban Bi-moon is asking for is the remilitarization of Cambodia and the beginning of a new war! Cambodian leaders better be ready when the war comes because the history always repeats itself!
It is so wrong to pick Ban Ki-moon to be UN Secretary General!
First, the world had the nigger UN Sec. Gen, and then comes the "gook of the jungle." These clowns are the same; the two belong in the jungle -- not in civil society. Plus, these two clowns are useless to the world community, that's why the Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen does not show an inch of respect for these guys.
So, I say: fuck the UN and fuck the US!
Not quite, but Fair enough!
