BEIJING, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- China expressed its concern about the ongoing border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia, and hoped the two sides would properly solve the dispute through dialogue, the Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
Ministry spokesman Qin Gang made the remarks at a regular press conference here.
In July, tensions ran high after the ancient Preah Vihear Temple was awarded world heritage status by UNESCO, angering Thai nationalists who still claim ownership of the site.
The tension later turned into a military stalemate, in which up to 1,000 Cambodian and Thai troops faced off for six weeks. In mid-August, most of the troops withdrew with only a few dozen soldiers stationed near the temple.
Bilateral talks to discuss withdrawing troops from around the temple were postponed in late August amid the domestic political turmoil in Thailand.
Thai Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat said on Tuesday morning his country could not pull out its troops from the disputed border area near Preah Vihear Temple as demanded by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.
Cambodia is launching a wide ranging diplomatic campaign to solicit international support. It has asked its ambassador to the United Nations to inform the U.N. Security Council about the conflict.

China is unqualified to tell anyone of such thing since it invaded and annexed Tibet over 50 years ago.

Do you understand the role of the U.N before you are calling khmer dumb?. Let me tell you that there are five permenent security councols, the U.S, China, France, England and Russia. They usually have a meeting and seeking cosent agreement of how they can help its member when the conflict arise like cambodia and thailand. They also need to get the consent agreement from the 15 rotate members, by seeking their support and vote. As for happening between thailand and cambodia it's not there yet because all member within the U.N and the Asian member still recomment for both countries to solve the problem by bilatteral talk.
I think China can play an important role to help solve cambodian and thai conflick. The whole world know that vietnam was behind Hun Sen to go to war with thai for many reasons. Hun Sen is mafia government leader of cambodia. He threat, intimedate and kill many cambodians. His cpp party stole the election. His dogs are taking land from ordinary khmer people at Boeung Kok and around Phnom Penh. It's the aniversary October 15 that hun sen sign to give away our land to vietnam. Hun Sen is still working hard for vietnam to get preah vihear to give to sok kong who is vietnamese. Sok Kong is control Ankor Wat. He gets $50 million a years while cambodian don't even get one cent. If and when Preah Vihear is fully under pretending hun sen control, Sok Kong will make million more.
If asked, China may be able to mediate the dispute, but China will not interfere with other nation affair because its constitution prohibited it.
my advice to ah sen is that have a close relation with Russia. Do not depend on US or anyone else. Russia has advance weaponry. Forget about the US, Thailand is like Israel in South East Asia to America in terms of support and relationship. This does not mean the Thais are as strong as and smart as the Jews.
of course, this is the way it should be, dialogue!!! it's not even a declared war! however, both has to see how the dialogue will turn out! a khmer person.
