Tech Samnang, secretary-general of the Accreditation Committee of Cambodia (ACC), made available to the public the conclusions of his evaluation mission. The mission objective is to make the Cambodian education system conformed to regional and international standards.

This year, the ACC focused on 40 schools which are mainly located outside Phnom Penh. Among them, five received their final accreditation, whereas, 32 receive a temporary recognition. Thus, only three schools, one of which is in Phnom Penh, failed the process.

Set up in 2003, the ACC relies on the Council of Ministers. The committee evaluates teachers, as well as libraries, buildings and classrooms, its objective is to make the Cambodian education system conformed to international standards. However, not everyone agrees with this. Rong Chhun, President of the Cambodia Independent Teachers’ Association (CITA) suspects that there is collusion between some government ministers and private schools. Rong Chhun stressed that the evaluation criteria lack precision, saying that “when one thinks about the priority placed on commerce, the quality of education [in Cambodia] remains weak.”

In 2007, the ACC accredited 32 schools, most of them in Phnom Penh. The ACC’s communiqué underscored that these schools provided consistent efforts allowing them to improve their teaching.

The ACC report is just a piece of shit. The accreditation committee is not even independent of the government. The World Bank withdrew its financial support in the first place because of its apparent tie to the government. The ACC members are the racketeers of higher education in Cambodia. No money, no accreditation. Racketeering is taking root in Cambodia in all aspects now.

Quality of education in Cambodia will continue to be weak due to the fact that the teachers get very little pay. Teachers don't make enough to give a shit too much. Most cldn't even support their families with their teacher salary, so therefore, they seek other alternatives to make money. Whether it's thru bribing, collecting extra money from kids each day, or get a second job. Teachers should receive higher pay and the districts should make it harder for people to acquire their teaching job. If anyone deserve a better pay, it wld be the teachers.

How much do the teachers want to get pay in Srok Khmer?

According to Samdech Hun SenVarman's mockery speech a few years ago...

"If the teacher wanted to get higher pay, I Samdech Hun Sen will fire half of them, then each of them will get a double pay!"
