Minister: Cambodia-Thailand trade to be normal soon [-Cham Prasidh admits Cambodia's dependence on Thai products]

PHNOM PENH, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Commerce Minister Cham Prasidh said Sunday that the trade between Cambodia and Thailand would be normal soon after a deadly clash at the border.

The armed clash did not impact the economic field for both sides, Cham Prasidh told reporters at the airport after returning from China.

"It is nearly normal. It was not a war yet," he added.

"The Thai side is not crazy to escape from Cambodian market. Cambodia is a main market for Thai products," he said, adding that Cambodia also can make business with others countries.

The Cambodian government has called for calm following last week's border clash that has resulted in the deaths of three Cambodian soldiers and a Thai trooper.

Regional border committees of Cambodia and Thailand on Friday signed an agreement to ease their months-long tension along the border near the 900-year-old Preah Vihear Temple.

In July, tensions ran high after the Preah Vihear Temple was awarded world heritage status by UNESCO, angering nationalists in Thailand who still claim ownership of the site.

The tension later turned into a military stalemate, in which up to 1,000 Cambodian and Thai troops faced off for several weeks.

Cambodian people depend too much on Thai products?

=It is amazing that for all the economic progress claimed by our Prime Minister Hun Sen and Cambodia have yet to produce basic products for domestic market such as soap, shampoo, perfume, toy, candy, toothpaste, noodle, paper, cooking oil, cement, toilet paper, shoe, pen and pencil...

So now Cambodian people have become the consumer of the world products even if they don't have any money to pay for it? It is a shame that Cambodian people who are living on less than one dollar a day and they can still afford to spend their hard earn money on the Thai products?

I remembered Cambodia under King Sihanouk and Cambodian people are forced to learn how to create and make things and they don't depend on foreign products!

The only thing that Cambodia need to buy is satellite technology, missile technology, military technology, scientific equipments, factories, power plants, gun and ammo ,the know how...

that's just one person opinion, however, the cambodia as a whole are not thrill about having to depend on thailand for trade, etc... so, don't think that cambodia will die out because we stop doing trade with thailand. give me a break! it's like saying let's go to a buffet and eat only pad thai or ktiev chaa in khmer. give me a break!

However I think this guy, Cham Prasidh, the MINISTER OF MINISTRY OF COMMERCE really needs several marketers and Specialists to teach him on basic marketing and other topics. Because he knows nothing on "how to create/find market for tones of agricultural crops/products for Cambodia Farmers.

The main reason that the Siamese and Viet merchants trade agricultural crops from Cambodia at the border, is "low price" comparing to those within their countries. This trade activities are self-activated not initiated by this joker.

I am wondering if this so-call MINISTRY OF COMMERCE has developed any STRATEGIC PLAN or KPI to measure the performance.

Please do not tell me that the surge of the GARMENT INDUSTRY was initiated by these jokers.

I really suggest this guy to remain silient is better because I do not see any sense from his smelly mouth.
