Echoing King-Father’s recommendation, Prince Norodom Sirivudh, former Funcinpec secretary-general, announced that he is quitting politics.

During an inter-parliamentary forum titled “Security sector governance in Southeast Asia” organized by the Cambodian NGO CICP (Cambodian Institute for Cooperation and Peace), Prince Sirivudh, the president of this NGO, announced that he is quitting Cambodian politics. “Our King-Father suggested, on several occasions, to members of the royal family not to be involved in politics. My sister, Princess Norodom Vichara (former Funcinpec MP for Phnom Penh) and me, we have decided to follow his advice,” the prince explained. Prince Sirivudh, who is also a senior personal advisor of King Sihamoni, called on other members of the royal family to follow King-Father’s recommendation. According to him, this is a good way to bring forth the value of the royal family.

In a short communiqué distributed on 25 August 2008, King-Father reiterated his wish to see members of the royal family dedicate themselves to social works, and he invited princes and princesses to follow his advice. Prince Sirivudh indicated that he would withdraw from politics, but he did not dismiss the major problems faced by the kingdom. “I will ask the government, not as a politician, what it wants to do with oil income, how it plans on reducing poverty, maintaining the economic growth, or how it will maintain the teaching of the royal language in schools,” the prince said. The prince welcomed the stability of the government which is far better than other countries in the region, as well as the good progress of the general election. “I have confidence in the government for the resolution of border problems with Thailand and other neighboring countries,” the prince concluded.

It's best that he quits. Politic is dirty and rotten. The royal family deosn't need it. Find some other things to do is much more welcoming and appreciative by many many people. For example: give out a good speech at school or community , visiting our rural poor along with our King or supporting his role as the most important part of the country.

Remmeber, we agree to give our country a chance to be refreshed or to start new by allowing the Monarchy to come back. Don't turn it away. Make the royal family the finest -solid ground for the whole country to stand on.

Please go out and really get to know our people. If the royal family can truely understand their needs, they can help. Either thru fund raising or bring their real problem to the government's attention.

Both our government and the royal family must be bale to work together. It actually had already been done or trying. Mrs. Hun Sen do get along with Prince Ranarith's wife. They work well together interm of humanitarian purpose or thru red cross. That is really really helped. We also saw her busband, PM.Hun Sen went along from time to time, but it wasn't enough. Many more things definitely need to be done. The Prince appreancely wasn't with his wife at all. He seems to put himself in politic first and in a wrong direction. He pretty much destroyed the whole purpose of rebuilding Cambodia by one of the most famous face of the royal family. See his divorse from Princess Marie and his new young wife. If Prince Ranarith really wants to do a good job and perhaps, be as someone who can take the second place from his Majesty King Sihamoni, he should have been more careful. Well, some people forgot and didn't know who he actually was. Princess Marie was the other way. She is ready to be important at any moment or notice. We love her from head to toes.

With the Royal family now are changing their paths, things can be very positive. Whatever you do or choose to do, please put our people and our cultures first and formost. Our Cambodian culture and image cann't be fully represented by our own people or our government alone. Something is missing and won't be able to complete until everyone is together.
