THAI-CAMBODIAN BORDER ROW
BEIJING : The Thai and Cambodian leaders yesterday agreed to avert any future armed conflicts along the border by using bilateral talks to solve problems.
The Joint Boundary Committee (JBC) will hold a meeting within two weeks after the Thai parliament endorses a temporary framework for the negotiations next Tuesday.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen told Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat on the sidelines of the Asia-Europe Meeting (Asem) in Beijing that the border clash last week was unplanned and from now on the two sides would advise their troops to show restraint and not confront each other, Thai Foreign Minister Sompong Amornvivat said yesterday.
He said Hun Sen added that the two countries would try to prevent any further armed clashes and would use existing mechanisms in order to deal with their boundary disputes.
The Cambodian leader also said the two sides would promote and improve cooperation on the regional, international and bilateral fronts.
Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong said Hun Sen told Mr Somchai that Thailand was not only a neighbour, but also a friend.
In separate talks between the Thai and Cambodian military commanders in Siem Reap yesterday, which are aimed at defusing tensions near the ancient Preah Vihear temple that erupted into a firefight on Oct 15, leaving one Thai and three Cambodian soldiers dead, both sides agreed to be more patient and avoid another clash.
"For the issue of the Preah Vihear area, both sides vowed to exercise maximum patience in order to avoid confrontation or more military clashes," the leader of the Cambodian delegation, General Chea Mon, told reporters after the meeting.
"Both sides will continue discussions on resolving the problem peacefully to ease the tension gradually," he said.
The Thai commanders, led by Lt-Gen Wiboonsak Neeparn, the Second Army commander, said there was a "friendly atmosphere" with the Cambodians, but insisted that Thailand's soldiers would stand firm.
"The Thai side strongly reiterates that the position of our troop deployments is clearly inside Thai territory," said a statement from Thai commanders released as the meetings started.

yes, the joint boundary committee should work out the process of properly demarcating the borderlines by using the map that both sides had signed in a treaty, not the thai unilateral map because cambodia can not accept that. it looks to me, the only treaty that both side signed and agreed with was the 1907 map because any other later map was so unilateral and in favor of thailand, to say the least!
The longer postphone talking the more cambodian side going to lose their land.
Thai always has good tactick to gain more land.
Thai can't do with LAO but Cambodian.
k. serey
Didn't they agree to talk before?
LAO Mong Hay, Hong Kong
Well, they did Dr. Lao. The question is - why in the world are they prolonging this agony?
May I add a couple more of question to yours, Dr. Lao?
Who's behind all this? The Chinky, the Viet?
Let's just get the slingshot and shoot them all in the testicle to death!
What does everyone think? Thanks.

Dr Lao,
Let me put this to you: you are a traitor. I know you oppose Hun Sen and align yourself with Sam Rainsy, but your action so far is to support the SRP blindly and criticize everything else.
You must know that Hun Sen is a very successful and clever politician. You cannot defeat him by criticizing him, and you can't defeat him politically, so you use your protection of anonymity by hiding abroad, and writing trash about everything that happen in Phnom Penh.
Hun Sen is more than competent to handle this matter, and diplomacy takes time. What do you mean by asking "Didn't they agree to talk before?" Of course they did, and now they meet as promised. Is there a mistake in talking too? Should we now bring the case to UN, International court, convene a summit with all the countries that participated in the '91 Peace Accord? No, because you know that if all avenues are not yet exhausted, we will have less credibility in the international stage. Don't forget that Thailand enjoy a better support and sympathy in the international stage the Cambodia.
Please, Dr., do yourself a favour and stop criticizing for the sake of criticizing. If you don't have anything of substance to contribute, it is fine to not voice your opinion.
Mr PENH Panha, Phnom Penh
Are you penh pannha mother fucker hun sen dick sucker? or penh pannha the beggar?. Thais know they're occupying cambodia's land illegally but they continue to do it for the following reasons:
Thais know hun sen don't dare to ask U.N for help because he has insulted and ruded to U.N representative in cambodia. Also the majority of asian countries are side with thailand because they they don't trust and believe hun sen erratic behavior. Hun sen continue to threat, intimedate, rape, rob and kill his own khmer people. So thai think this conflick will serve them and any life threaten khmer well in the future.
Thais know hun sen has given a larg portion of cambodia land, 30 thousand square kilometers, to his master vietnamese. Thais want the same treatment from hun sen.
Thai know it's in their best interest to deal with hun sen directly because hun sen and his government is well known in the world to be the most corrupted country.
Hey Mr PENH Panha, Phnom Penh:
Based on your response to Dr. Lao,
you're one stupidest Viet's slave nuts case that would even bore a dog to death...
Get lost you nuts case PENH Panha, ROFL!
penh panha, i feel so sorry for ypou as you arew just as blind and dumb as hun shit, your yuon slave. and you are the sub-yuon slave. diplomacy ? how good is hun sen at that ? more and more khme land is ceded to the yuona nd siam. as we speak khmer can't even build a fence around their temple in memut, as the yuon can stop them. where onearth can this happen ? only on your yuon slave's land ?
and hun sen is smart and competent ? yes, he is with bringing cambodia back to beggar state, selling off everything.
yes, just stay in your frog hole, don't come out as you can only see clearly when you take a tep back and watch from outside.
khmer in phnom penh but have educated outisde the country.
