(BangkokPost.com) - Prime Minister and Defence Minister Somchai Wongsawat said he will attend the Asia-Europe Meeting (Asem) in Beijing from Oct 23 to 25, and he may hold informal talks on the Thai-Cambodian border dispute with Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen there.
"If there is an opportunity for bilateral talks, then it would be held, but it also depends on the coordination between both countries’ foreign ministries. The matter should not be raised at the Asem," Mr Somchai said.
According to Prime Minister Hun Sen’s advisor, both premiers could meet and seek solutions to the border conflict, and they may hold informal talks at the Asem in Beijing on Friday.
The Foreign Ministry of Cambodia disclosed that the border row between the two countries will be Cambodia’s main informal agenda. The Thai Foreign Ministry has not responded to this report yet.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Department of Asean Affairs director-general Vitavas Srivihok affirmed that Thailand is ready to host the Asean Summit this December, and Prime Minister Somchai will remain as the Asean chairman despite facing a political crisis.

In this border conflict provoked by the thailande, there are no things to be negotiated.
In the bilateral negotiation, the Cambodian royal government has to ask:
-The situation has to return to the situation before July 15th, 2008,
-The thailande remove its troops of the Khmer territories,
-The receipts resulting from the tourist exploitation of the Preah vihear's site must be fairly shared between both countries,
-The thailande has to pay 100,000 dollars to every killed Khmer soldier and 50,000 dollars to every Khmer soldier injured in the fight as compensation because the thailande is culprit,
Otherwise, not possible agreement and it is war!
To go outf the dead end of the thailande political situation because its democracy is very sick , the thailand's politicians and military made a political calculation cynical: try to provoke the war with Cambodia to create a sudden fit of thais national unity .
Thais is now in trouble on the domestic policy and on the situation of the border conflict with Cambodia today.
In the long term this border's situation conflict with Cambodia will evolve favorably for Cambodia.
Now The thailande tries to go out of this border conflict without losing too much the face in front of the thailand public opinion.
Who says that the thailande is an example to be followed from the point of political system and social organization?
